Subject: Font size and background color

stahlratte ( ) posted Tue, 04 April 2006 at 8:13 PM · edited Sun, 03 November 2024 at 5:39 AM

I used to have my forum options set to a much larger font size as well as a white text on black background color scheme, because that is much easier on my eyes. Will this options come back or are we stuck with the default color scheme now ? If at least I would be able to resize the font in my browser to make it easier readable, but the site just ignores my IE settings. stahlratte

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 04 April 2006 at 8:30 PM

I don't mind the default colors (white font on black is my least favorite viewing next to yellow on black), but I do wish I could change the menu to the left side and see that I have instant messages waiting. I do agree I'd like to beable to resize the font...not all of us have equal ability to see. I just noticed I can't change the subject heading either, which was kind of nice when I wanted to highlight a topic change in a thread. I like the smilies :thumbupboth: but I don't like having to copy and paste the coding. 👎 Grump, grump. I guess, as with everything, I get used to it. :b_confused:

I didn't realize they got rid of the message notice.

You can resize the font with ctrl+mouse scroll..and the quote thing...well you just highlight the area you want and then click 'quote' under someones post...{least thats how I think it works..} right? I also would prefer my ol standby black background..but we shall see what happens once all the bugs are worked out :) Edit: huh....I clicked 'messaging' on the top of the screen, and I get the IM window..and all my old colors are there...just not here...how weird is that?

Im now browsing with Firefox which can override a websites settings so Rendo looks like this for me now: Image hosting by Photobucket Still would be nice to know if the old customizability will be back, as I prefer the white on black color scheme for messageboards only. stahlratte

Blu, what browser are you using? Firefox is doing pretty good from what I can tell from others for font size..use that and the mouse scroll feature and see if that helps :) And the smilies...click that smilie link right on top of the reply window there..then in the next window that pops up, just highlight the words under the smiley you want, copy, and paste into the reply box... Words like so..{ :thumbsup both: without spaces}

Hi all, The default colors will stay so that we can be uniform throughout the site, Marketplace and the Community once everthing is converted. You can create your own style sheet to over ride the default colors for instance in firefox. http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/menu#viewpagestyle http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/edit http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/options We may on down the road see about setting up one or two predefined style sheets that members can choose from on their profile page. Hope this helps some:)

So, if you can override the default using fancy wossnames in firefox, what is the problem with letting us customise our settings still? And for the record, I don't especially want someone elses idea of what I should have on the potential new style sheets either. Gads, guess I'm gonna have to grit my teeth and deal with firefox. It's ridiculous that I have to change browsers just to get my old settings back on a website :(

no. :) a friendly bit of advice for the PtB: you really don't want to force people to view things your way these days; those days are long gone, and you just piss people off if you take options away from them. and you can't be serious in suggesting that the only way to get a choice of different styles is to switch browsers! while i am all in favour of ditching crappy browsers, that's simply not good customer service.

Khai ( ) posted Wed, 05 April 2006 at 1:00 PM

ok Warning to all. following Stacy's advice will change ALL websites you visit. eg while you make this site how you want it, you'll do the same to Google or BBC News or ....

StaceyG ( ) posted Wed, 05 April 2006 at 3:26 PM

We completely understand how you feel about the standardized forum colors. The look of the new forums will take some getting used to. It was fun that we used to be able to change colors with the old EZ format. But, the new PHP platform will give us a wider range of features in the long run. Unfortunately, customized colors are not one of those options at this time Thanks

You have got to be kidding me with the lack of options taken from the user regarding color preferences. When you look at a black contact sheet versus white, you can actually see thumbs quite a bit better without the blasting white (or whatever cream color you call it). We have heard nothing but how the site is going forward and changing for the better, yet you are lapsing into an area where the user has no control and is forced to use a new web browser?? Am I reading this correctly?? You force a new window to open when viewing an image in the gallery with no option to turn that off. That is bad enough and eats up ram with some browsers like crazy and is terribly cluttered. Now you are forcing an unwanted default color scheme globally for all users?? You call this advancement for the better? Are you paying $6 per hour for web developers or just really have no idea what is out there for site design? PHP doesn't offer any options to the user whatsoever? I think not. Have your default GUI all you want, but this obviously enforcfes the notion that you don't consider the end-user at all. When you change the community side over to this blinding white, I'm not changing my web browser due to lazy and faulty coding and site design. My lighting scheme in my computer area has been well more thought out than this changeover here, and I will not be forced to change my system due to problematic design on this site or any other. Either reconsider this foolish development approach or watch users drop off this site to the point where your merchants are screaming at you to fix it. Even Daz has some GUI 'skins' for their site, and I'd rather look at a Dragonworld interface than your stark white and basic look as the MP has shown. It's just plain fugly still with no options to the user to change it whatsoever. I still see no dates a product is released! Your idea of change is not mine, and so many here, so why force this mentality on us all?? Change is good? Well, then show me the money, cuz it's not happenin' from where I stand. If this was Communist Russia back in 1965, I might be able to understand, but it's 2006 people!! Technology marches forward, not backward, and if this is your idea of improvement, I'll be elsewhere. Sorry to sound rash or bitter, but you just went from a customizable site to something sterile, ridiculous, user unfriendly, and downright dumb. When the galleries shift to blinding and irridescent white, I'm outta here. Period. Change this, -Shardz-

I really do hope the galleries aren't next in line for this treatment..as much as I don't like the forum changes(or the marketplace change a while ago) it's not enough to warrant leaving altogether.. .if the galleries are next though..well..chances are I'll post all my work elsewhere too. If Stac said that its going to stay that way..then more than likely 'somebody' higher up than she, said so. I have stated I dont 'care' for it really..but its not going to kill me..and something like a color is not going to make me leave...If it bothers my eyes {which it does to a certain extent} and I plan on being here awhile..I can change it in FF until I decide to go elsewhere on the web...annoying, yes, catastrophic..no. Wanna know what bothers me most? I have seen so many people, starting new threads..all saying the same thing..the color, the PM's, the sort order of threads, the stars..{good Lord the stars}...trust me, the PTB sees this stuff..the mods see this stuff..why must we all have a new thread to voice our complaints.... Can I do anything about it but complain? no. Can I try and make light of a situation that could possibly turn hateful? Yes. I much prefer the latter.. Im not sitting quietly..Im speaking my mind..the staff see it...if they 'want' to change things here..its their baby... Im not saying dont voice your opinion on things..but dont demand things change or you're leaving..You already know what the PTB will say.....;) C'mon Stone...:)

I say keep complaining & keep starting these new threads, make your voice heard, the more threads that start piling up asking the same thing ..eventually they may just change it. "its their baby..." yea I'm starting to see that, maybe I'm naive in thinking it was our baby, that 'community' word always throws me into thinking we have a say. & a right to say it

Shardz, dear dear dear misguided shardz. You assume they (the ptb) care what you or I, or anyone of the three dozen or so members that are/have been griping about these changes think. As is evidenced by the fact that there are all kinds of complaints about these changes, and only one perhaps two posts where someone actually liked them but nothing's being said, or done about the complaints. P.S. PTB The forum is still slow for me now.
