Attached Link: Complaint & Debate

Heh Heh..I Just went to view all of my old posts ( 3362 posts) I then decided to go to the last page and got to read some of the old Complaint & Debate threads. Pretty cool Tom

Laughs Yeah..well I tried to reply to an old C&D thread but it doesn't let me. I guess it's "Read Only". Tom

I hope they let that slide. I'd love to access some of the info I lost when those wonderful outlets disappeared.

Me too...C&D wasn't all bad. Nor the Virtual Tavern and OT forums. They should remain available for Reading Only. Tom

Hey -- I remember that place. Wasn't that the old pub on the corner where the police used to get called in 3 or 4 times a night? The club that they finally had to pull the alcohol sales license for -- after numerous shootings occured & riots kept spilling out into the parking lot -- and from there on into the rest of the neighborhood? Yeah -- I still remember the dire predictions of utter impending doom which chased the closure of that particular pub. "There goes the neighborhood!" / "Everyone will go somewhere else!" was the conventional wisdom of the time. Well.....the old neighborhood is now bigger than ever. And it's gettin' bigger all of the time. Must be a reason for that.....like perhaps the fact that the vast majority of the populace prefer to live in a somewhat more peaceable neighborhood. shrug If I were running a business, then I would go with what works. From a purely business standpoint: shutting down that old pub was a good idea. It still is a good idea.

Actually a number of the ones that I spent time interacting with have disappeared from here. And growth here is more likely because more people are buying the software and more people are getting online, period. ;-)

And a few hundred (thousand?) others have taken the place of each one. Quote - And growth here is more likely because more people are buying the software and more people are getting online, period. ;-)"

Oh.....no doubt there is an element of that going on (and it's a good thing for our favorite hobby). But I wouldn't posit that as being the only reason for the website's phenomenal growth since C&D bit the dust. ;)

Perhaps not the only reason. We got rid of nekkid 5000 year-old female fairy's too. Especially the ones that had the "eternal youth" chromosome... and we've replaced them with even more nekkid Vicky3s. All kidding aside I don't think there's any way to really determine what kind of impact that had other than individual anecdotal evidence. I know I was in the Poser Forum a long time before I ventured into the OT forum. It's presence didn't have any impact on me until a thread that was clearly OT got moved there. I also know that the Poser Forum didn't have any impact on me for a long time before that because I was interested in Freebies. That was during the time of the C&D forum. Therefore in my experience (unscientific and anecdotal) the C&D or OT or Den or Virtual Tavern didn't keep me from participating at Renderosity at all. They didn't draw me or repel me. But doubtless there are others with different experience. ;-)

"the C&D or OT or Den or Virtual Tavern didn't keep me from participating at Renderosity at all." Nor I. And as mentioned...it wasn't "ALL" bad. Sure...some of it was "REALLY" bad ,but not all of it. Some of the discussions were quite helpful and entertaining. Tom

jeez, I hafta question the wisdom of keeping those old posts, as some folks (not me of course ) may have said stuff they don't want everyone to see

However we choose to explain ((or perhaps more accurately in some cases - to explain away)) the leaps & bounds growth of Rendo -- The fact remains that the doomsayers of that time were 100% totally/utterly/completely WRONG in their dark prophecies concerning the fallout from C&D's closure. It didn't lead to the dire conclusion that they all insisted that it would. Just the opposite has happened, in fact. BTW - the exact same thing happened again to a smaller degree with the closures of both OT & the Den. We saw predictions of the death of Rendo -- followed by more & more contrawise evidence of resilient life.

I agree Xen. it wasn't the end of the world as predicted. What did happen,as predicted,to a lesser extent was that the OT stuff would spill out into the other topic forums. It's calmed down considerably though. There should not be an easily accessible link to the old forums, but making them available to those who want to dig for them should be okay.Especially since they can not reply. Tom
