girsempa ( ) posted Wed, 12 April 2006 at 9:25 PM

Thanks guys, it was the brown leather material that did it ;-) Actually, Doug, I thought it was a duck first haha! So, I'll have to put my little iSight camera to work again. Hang on!

This is a some leftover from the previous inhabitant of my house. He was 90 years old, lived alone and died when he got hit by a car while crossing the road in front of the house. So the item is pretty old and rather 'obsolete'. Still some of you may have seen it or used it, or maybe some still do... If you ever saw it, it shouldn't be too difficult ;-)

Hey Geert, this one is not an easy one ... or is it ? 😕

FuzzyShadows ( ) posted Wed, 12 April 2006 at 9:50 PM

Mmm, a box of cheese. Don't mind if I do.

girsempa ( ) posted Wed, 12 April 2006 at 9:57 PM

Meu amigo Carlos, I have also used it when I was young... I'm sure some must have seen this. It also played a very important role in the Belgian culture (you'll laugh when you understand why...;-) --Geert

Chalk?

FuzzyShadows ( ) posted Wed, 12 April 2006 at 11:41 PM

Or wax, although I have no idea what that would be used for.

girsempa ( ) posted Thu, 13 April 2006 at 12:01 AM

And I thought this was easy...! Marlene, you had something there from the Belgian eating culture (chocolate), but it's the other thing... No, not Brussels sprouts.;-) And yes, it's a kitchen tool. Fuzzy, the little white rectangles are plastic part of the tool itself.

Some pretty interesting guesses here! (Sigh...) We do have such a small country; and you probably all associate this with being French (this is a huge tip!). Come on, without this MacDonalds wouldn't have even existed...! (another huge tip;-).

Yep, FuzzyShadows was right, it is a french fries maker or potato slicer. French fries (who ever called this French? it's Belgian!!!) are a big part of the Belgian culture; you can find several French fry stands in every village here. Some years ago, we even had special cars that drove through the streets with just French fries with salt and mayonaise (or pickles), just like ice cream vendors. We Belgians really speak of 'the art of French fry making'! ;-) Really!!! So, Fuzzy, the next WoE is on you!
