THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: PS to Bryce 5.5

I am sure I have done this many times before but try as I may I cannot do it today.

I have drawn an image in PS and since it has some areas of transparency I have saved it as *.psd file. The reason for this is to utilise the drawing as a texture in Bryce 5.5. First I go through the CREATE/Little Gold Man routine, select the next available place and import my *.psd image. The correct image appears but the areas that are supposed to be transparent are filled with white. Help requested.

You have to create a transparecy map(black and white) of the image. The opaque(visible areas)should appear as white, the areas to be transparent should be black. you load this into the second window in the picture editor area.

yes agreed. I found this out recently as well. Bryce works differently with transparencies, than other CG programs.

I save my textures as bmp's, black version and a white version. anyone with PS can convert that to psd. if they wish, from the white or black.

You need to create a new alpha channel (not layer) in Pshop and put your grayscale transparency there, then save as PSD - Bryce will automatically read that into the alpha channel. If you use that file with the "Leo" icon it'll set up the alpha as transparency. This also works for .tif files as well. HTH; Dan
