Subject: OT anyone else bitten by the Microsoft Update bug?

its been a pain of a week so far - and I think i'm nearly ready to uninstall microsoft office and chuck it away

since the security update which clashes with some HP software doing anything in office is terrible - open a document - for every nested level of folders you have a 20 second wait for bloody explorer to catch up get permission to open or whatever it is microsoft has done to make things SAFER

so to get to a 5 level deep folder takes about 2 minutes and it's the same saving

AND this is after I ve done the registry change that supposedly fixes things

anyone got advice on a replacement for office?

I'll second that suggestion.

I've used it for years (back when i purged my computer of files and programs of questionable origin.) and haven't found much that Office does that OpenOffice doesn't do.

Since windows installed the update on my computer earlier this week, my copy of Ulead PhotoImpact XL has been crashing as it tries to load up some of the files that it needs to work. Tried rolling back to an earlier restore point did't work; tried reinstalling the program same thing. If this is what one of their updates does to usually reliable software then god knows what chaos will break loose when they eventually release Vista!! :b_scared:

Does OpenOffice have anything similar to Outlook for emails, calenders, and postit notes? I use those features in office every day.
