Subject: A little game

I've recently posted some portraits to the poser gallery and I got a comment suggesting I post my protrait here without saying who I was attempting to deplict and ask people to guess at who it is.

Here is the game...  take a look and then make a guess first to guess right... gets a prize!

The prize may seem a little pathetic but its all I have (my services), I'll let the winner pick the next person I do a portrait of. Hopefully their pick will be a famous person, but I'll try grandma if requested.

Please somebody stop me if this thread is out of line or just too weird!

Our Sec. of State, the better half of George and Leezy - and an excellent job at that though I don't think her hoo hahs are that big.

halle berry?

Jackson ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 7:17 AM

Yeah, looks like Halle Berry to me, too.  Either her or Alan Alda.

ScotHarvest ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 7:42 AM

Ok, I can see Condoleezza Rice as a good guess... but Alen Alda, OUCH! This was my best shot at Halle Berry, I'm assumimg I did a resonable likeness because I did not have to repost a better/redone render (or give hints)!

So... Miss Nancy (winner), what person would you like me to try next. Mail me if you want the game to continue or just tell me here and I'll post your chosen portrait in a day or two.

Thanks All

"Alan Alda" is just a running joke here.  Whenever anyone posts a "digital clone" image and asks people to guess who it is, someone always says, "Alan Alda."  Just one of those weird Renderosity customs.

So don't take offense - no matter what you posted, someone would have guessed "Alan Alda."  ;-)

Who were the first one (and when) to say that 'Alan Alda' stuff? I've seen it several times and now, even in 'real life' when anybody ask whom does anybody resembles I always say it (non-renderosity people start to think I'm a bit weird...)

A search for “alan alda” in the Poser forum came up with 274 hits. But they’re not sorted by date, and I ain’t about to dig through them to find the first.

I see you say Halle Berry but my guess would have been Mariah Carey? Of course the fact that I dislike Halle would have her at the bottom of any of my lists lol

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 4:33 PM

great job, scot. she's rarely looked better. my request: hugh jackman.

Jackson ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 5:27 PM

my request: hugh jackman.

You should have asked for Alan Alda. That might put an end to all this.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 5:36 PM

sorry, but alan is somewhat less butch and dashing than hugh.

ScotHarvest ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 6:10 PM

I think I will stear clear of a Alda portrait... if for no better reason than to preserve the tradition. No offence was taken... but it did make me stand about 10 feet from the screen abd look hard LOL!

One Wolverine... I mean hugh jackman! coming up! (might take a day or two)

Definitely see a combo of Condi and Halle - which is a hell of an idea!

Not to partypoop, but it looks like you're compositing in real photos with your 3d render.  Isn't that sort of cheating?

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Thu, 04 May 2006 at 1:37 PM

that one is very nice like a cross between a younger antonio banderas, a younger pierce brosnan and hugh perhaps a nice smile, involving both the mouth and eyes

Why don't you be upfront that you're mixing in photos with your render instead of making vague remarks about doing "a lot of postwork".

ScotHarvest ( ) posted Sat, 06 May 2006 at 10:53 PM

The finished piece is a base render with morphs as close as I can get to the target person, posed to my liking (or someone elses) eyes, smile, jaw lines... are graphed on with Photoshop and the whole mess is "Fanta Morphed" TM with final hair and odd bits finished in photoshop.  The final piece is unique and interesting and does not infringe on any copyrights. But I do get alot of people who dont like these because they are not pure poser. Maybe I should post these in some forum other than poser?!? What forum would you suggest? 2D?

That's a good question, i'm not sure which forum would be best. The result is very cool so you should definitely keep at it. The problem most people have with photocompositing is that they feel like they're being deceived, so maybe continue posting here but just make it very clear when you post that there is photocompositing involved.
