THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Star Fighter WIP (C&C Desired)

Been a while since I've been around (summer just officially started with my last final on Monday); everything looks so different!

No, this is not modelled in Bryce, and no, it is not rendered in Bryce either.  The reason I post it here is because I'm not sure what to do with this model.  Obviously it's unfinished (and C&C are greatly appreciated), but once I complete it I would like to try and sell it somewhere.

So...

I'm completely frustrated and mad at Poser for its totally idiotic shading/smoothing algorithms that you simply CANNOT turn off.  I'm unwilling to triple the polygon count (beveling all of the edges is supposed to fix this, according to DAZ) just to make this model work in a crappy program anyway.  So, after looking at drawbridgep's DAZ store, I got the idea to sell this on DAZ as a Bryce obp.

What do you think?  Good/bad idea?  And what about the model, any suggestions there?

Great model! I always wonder how stuff designed like this would land - perhaps upside down or on a rail that would attach itself to the top?

Same way that Tie Fighters land.  ;-)

It's coming along nicely.  Does it have conventional engines we can look at?

I think that for landing, the wings would probably pivot upwards.  Kinda like a Bird of Prey.

easy to fix old chap
grab the free edition of UVmapper and Split the Vertices. for poser 4/PP/5 split the vertices. in Poser 6, you can control the crease angle as follows : Zero = total crease. every facet outlined. 100% = Total Smoothing aka Balloon.
Daz are a little biased since Daz Studio at this time relies on Microbeveling. a stupid idea as you have noted. for poser just split the vertices or build for poser 6 + - or both...

btw Poser ain't crap. it's like anyother tool. you just gotta know how to use it...

hmmmm tarantula ey mugsey? bird eating spider! would be quite fitting if this ship turns out to hunt klingon birds of prey :tongue1:

Thanks Khai... maybe I'll give it a shot (having it Poser-compatible would probably help a lot).  I didn't mean to offend, just was a bit frustrated at the time.  =)

However, I have issues with Poser besides just its smoothing/shading algorithms, although that is one of my major complaints.  In my opinion, it's quite simply unprofessional to require people to use a third-party program to turn OFF smoothing/shading: this is something that any 3D renderer should have as a toggle.  If they fixed it in Poser6, good for them (don't have it).  Sorry; as you say, it's a tool that needs to be learnt in order to use it best.  I just don't care much for this particular tool myself.  =)

Oh, and about landing...

drawbridgep's ideas sound cool, but the wings are part of the model, so no movement there.  =)  Easy to change, maybe I will, but as this ship isn't really intended to go places where there is gravity anyway, I think that landing abilities are unnecessary (like you said, maybe a hook on top or something).

Conventional engines?  er... dual fusion drive.  The vents on the rear wings and rear top of the craft vent the enormous heat created by the force field generator that controls the reaction.  It's the standard "bottle" type fusion drive: an intense magnetic field keeps the fusion reaction at bay, fuel is gradually fed into it, and then a "hole" is opened at the back.  The resulting force pushes the craft forward at high velocity.  ;-)

I can hand draw decals for you for this ship and scan them to digital if you wanna call it a TARANTULA.

Thanks, Mugsey.  I tend to avoid using other people's stuff, even it's made especially for me (although I'd be the first to admit that I'm not a texture artist).  I would certainly appreciate it if you'd go to the trouble for me, but I would use them as inspiration only. :-)

Thanks!

Very well amigo - let me know if you change your mind because anytime I offer public domain stuff it's public domain - no string attatched.

Okay.  Thanks!
