I think he wants this thread to list all software add-ons for Vue.  And possibly other programs that will be useful to Vue users.  I think.  Maybe.  Actually, I don't have a clue either.  :-)

Most 3D software permit to export under formats different from their source format. there is not a limitative list. For the objects, it is just a question of compatibility of the formats. In Vue, you can import a object  whose format is  : DXF or OBJ, 3DS, LWO, SHD; COB, 3DMF, WRL, PZ3 and PZZ, and DEM (only for Terrains). For example, You can use Onyx tree because with this software you can export the trees notably as OBJ objects.

Radiosity is not a software, but a category of lighting.

I hope to have understood the question and there to have answered for intelligible way

jc ( ) posted Fri, 12 May 2006 at 12:01 AM

I think all 3D software that use the Radiosity type lighting calculations are different. Each company does it their own way.

For me Silo 3D is an excellent 3D modeling tool for use with Vue. I model in Silo 3D, export as .obj, import into Vue and add materials in Vue 5 Infinite. Not need to do UV mapping or other stuff - very direct.

caranarq ( ) posted Fri, 12 May 2006 at 12:07 AM

hehehe just check what I do:

Model in AutoCAD

import in Sketchup, then texture, then export as 3ds

scene setup and render in VUE

bobbystahr ( ) posted Fri, 12 May 2006 at 2:19 AM

@ caranarq

"import in Sketchup"

So what's this SketchUp?...another app I need?...LOL& sigh

Sketchup is another modelling software. It is relatively easy to use as it is intended for sketching purposes, but it is easier for me to model in autocad since I've been using it for five years now.

The great thing in Sketchup is that it imports the autocad file better than 3dstudio max, and I find it easier to texture than in other programs.  I define which textures I want and where, then I export as .3ds, import in VUE and replace "sketchy" textures using VUE's realistic materialsand define illumination and cameras.

I push the render button then I got to wait some hours for VUE to finish. After that is all happiness and beer.

check www.sketchup.com

don't check www.autodesk.com

Some years ago I gave AutoDesk a try whilst visiting an architect friens in Van. and gave up in utter frusteration at the complexity after a few days....will look into this SketchUp tho...thanx

Sigh..seems that the Google version doesn't export anything but GoogleEarth, which this computer is too lacking in resources to handle....,and the workstation never goes online...any idea if all versions need to be online, a tad limiting that.....oh well eh.....  Sorry for hijacking this Vue Topic, maybe a new thread in Misc or something or is there in fact a SketchUp Forum...must check...over n out

You people are fun!

I just use sketchup for texturing - don't know about workstation online features.

The version I have can export  as

.3ds,

.dwg,

.dxf,

.fbx (what's that?),

.obj,

.xsi,

.wrl

I got aware of VUE from a sketchup forum, so what's wrong about speaking of Sketchup in a VUE forum?

Ahmado did not write in both langs ...

By the way, how do I get an avatar in this forum?

Over n out LOL

I maybe understood  Ahmadofline. "Radiosity "is a free plugin created by Rodluc to simulate the radiosity with VUE 4

Model in Modo, Maya and Xfrog.
Rigging/animation in Maya, Messiah and Xfrog.
Rendering in Maya/Mental Ray/Renderman, Vue Infinite...further to that I do quite often render within Maya to create clip maps for Vue.
I consider all these products as "add-ons" to Vue as it is unable to model (by model I mean, push, pull and edit polygons).
Ohh...I forgot one other thing; a good camera for texture collection...not software, but vital for 3d IMHO.

Cheers
