Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 28 6:42 am)
If I remember correctly a Mat Pose will not work on a prop as is, unless it's parented to a figure, like say a hair prop etc. MAT Poses will only work on figures! OTOH you can create Mats for props for Poser 5/6 in the Material folder in the Pose room, just save directly using Material Collection option! Hope that helps some!
You can use MAT POSE Edit which you can find in the Free Stuff to create Mat Poses in your Pose Folder!

In Poser 6 you can make MC6 files that will apply (in the material room) to a prop without a figure present.
In Poser 6 you can use a MAT pose file on a prop if there is a figure in the scene (parenting not required) I believe this is also true in Poser 5.

Must it be a prop(pp2)?
could you make it a figure(cr2)? a figure needs a bone, but that doesn't mean it has to have joints or move or do anything.

Well, here's the thing, I'm pretty new to Lightwave, and I created a pretty involved prop (entailed about 30 or so layers in Lightwave, not to mention the LOOOOOONG hours/days it took), and the thought of going back to the drawing board and re-designing this all from scratch again, is to say the least..... not appealing. :) That plus the fact I'm not at the "Creating CR2's" level in Lightwave yet pretty much dictates, for now at least, that it must be a prop.
I appreciate the suggestion though Tyger_purr.

I know absolutly nothing about lightwave, but i do know that once you import the obj into poser you just take it into the setup room (p5/6) and it becomes a figure. insert a bone, assign everything to it and then you can seve it as a cr2.
No redesign, rework or lost effort.

I wasn't aware of that, (as I'm not too familiar with "boning") however, I'd need to make sure that doing so would NOT alter the geometry of the OBJ, if so, it would render all the morphs I created inoperable. If it won't affect my morphs at all, it's definitely an option worth keeping in mind.

Is there a "Materials Collection" option for Poser 5 (as in Poser 6)? Poser 5's Material Room option doesn't seem to offer the option of saving a "collection" of materials at once (as compared to P6). If not, then what other options would I have for applying MAT Poses in Poser 5 other than "saving/embedding" the material/texture content into the prop library (IE, I have a choice of 3 different MAT Poses to apply for a prop.... I would save INTO my Prop Library 3 different prop models, each with a different MAT Pose applied)?
Thanks in advance.

I have no experience with morphs so i couldnt say for sure.
I can't imagine it would break them.

Material collections are new for Poser 6. anything prior to that you would need to use MAT pose files.

Howdy, I just created a prop using Lightwave, imported it into Poser, created the morphs for it UVmapped it and saved that prop with the morphs and newly mapped OBJ file into Poser.
Okay, I then took my templates (created in UVMapper) for this prop into Photoshop and created a texture/color for it and saved it as a JPG, which I can apply to the prop I created by going into Posers Material Room, selecting the specific object and specifc material from the drop down menu, and then applying an image map by creating a new node for it and directing it to my Photoshop created JPG. Eveything works fine.
Now what I want to know is how to create a Mat Pose for this in Poser's POSE Library so I don't have go through this process all the time as I intend to create several different textures to select from, so the user has a choice of which texture/look they want to go with.
Just in case I'm not explaining myself correctly, I want to be able to apply a particular texture to my prop by choosing it from within a particular folder (which I presume I'll have to create as well) in my POSES Library.
Thanks in advance.....
