Subject: Problem with procedual terrains

hi,

as some of you know, I´m playing with procedual terrains...but since the last beta patch of vue 5i, I feel that procedual terrains seem to chance shape when they are moved....I don´t remember them doing that before....or is this normal (not just minor changes but a completely new shape) or what is the trick to prevent it ?

thx for your help

You might be right but I cant be certain of this since I don't usually work with procedural terrains.  However, I would add this:  make sure that the texture material you apply to the procedural isn't causing the terrain to change its shape.  Sometimes I have experienced my terrains to really change their shape when I apply certain materials.  Depending on the material, changing from object standard to object world and some others, can alter the topography of the terrain.

Hope this helps

hi,

thx for the quick answer.....you are right at this point...I´ve made similar experiences in the past...but if I´m correct, this happens by just moving the terrain without any additional changes....

with regards

As a long time user of procedural textures in Imagine 3D I'd like to add here that my earliest attempts at texture animation  was moving an object with an unlocked texture applied to it through Imagine space and watching the texture change as the object moved thru it. Could that be what's happening here? The procedural applies to Vue world, and every place you move it [the procedural terrain] to in Vue World makes it appear different. Is there maybe a way to lock the procedural  to the terrain? Doubt it works eggs-ackley the same way but I believe the theory is similar.

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

I just wonder...
Maybe Procedural Terrains are locked to the World Space, as opposed to the Object Space...
If so, would one way to get around it be to convert the Proc. terrain back to a "normal" one, move the terrain, then convert back to Proc?

Just a thought....

Cheers,

The way to stop procedural terrains from changing shape when moved is to make sure the mapping cordinates are object parametric and NOT world cordinates.

I think it is stupid that this is the way vue works but....

Everytime I make a procedural terrain I either get a world cordinate procedural terrain or a object parametric procedural terrain. It is a crap shoot as to which type of mapping cordinate the procedural terrain will be when vue generates it.

Anyhow the option is in the material editor.

sounds like this could be the key to my little problem...thx to all of you for your quick answers
