Hi all I had my PC infected with the w32.Polip virus and have found a free cure to clean the files so I thought I would share.

Did the CureIt thing and it said it "cured" everything. It did kill the virus/trojan from memory, but I still get warnings of  an infected file from AVG anti-virus. I'm beginning to suspect these are false warnings, ie. only left over traces of the virus. No new files have been infected. There are several long threads re. this here. One file in windows, STGUNST.EXE, keeps poping up as infected and as I don't know how vital this file is, I just leave it alone. Would like to delete or vault it but it may be essential to windows. Any ideas?

I followed the instructions on the Norton site and did a virus/Quarantine in safe mode after disabling the system restore and then used the Cureit it sorted everything except 2 files which were not important to me
