Subject: My new tripod

Erlik ( ) posted Sun, 21 May 2006 at 12:44 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 5:28 AM

I've gone and bought this Walimex tripod. It satisfies all my weght needs, even if I bought the heaviest lens I want for my E-300. Which is quite unlikely, as it costs almost 10000 dollars here. 😄 The head goes around nicely, but what I especially like about the tripod is that, together with the head, it comes up to 190 cm. And I'm 204, so you can imagine it being important to me. What actually I wanted to ask... The legs telescop out, with catches to stop them. But the legs do not slide out smoothly. Should I, and may I, oil them? It's only plastic and aluminium anyway, so maybe it will work itself out in time. Any recommendations?

IMHO, I would not oil them ... as it could be quite hard to level it when you use the legs in 3 different levels.

Attached Link: silicone spray

I can’t read what ever language the link is, anyway is the 4300g the tripod weight? That is heavy!

I don’t think I would oil the legs and they may ease up in time, you can get a silicone spray that should ease the legs a little.

German. Yeah, that's 4300g for the tripod and 990g more for the head. But I don't mind. Five kilos is basically nothing compared to my size, especially carried on my back. There are Manfrotto tripods at eight kilos without a head, btw. And a two kilo head. Imagine lugging 10 kilos around...

Hmm my manfrotto only weighs 1.74 kilos (without the head).

Your link doesn't show me anything btw. Not in IE, not in FireFox.

Which manfrotto? The digi one? Take a look at those pro models. :-) And they apparently changed the link or the seesion expired or something. It's here.

Funny. The link I just inserted doesn't appear as a link when I mouse over. Copy and paste into one line: http://www.foto-walser.biz/myfactory20/Shop/Shop.aspx?ClientID=wf836037564476400513&Shop=1&Type=9&Param=1338&Group=230&Language=D

Yours is a step up in size :P I've got the Manfrotto 190DB. With the 3D head on it it's large enough for me to stand straight and I'm 1.99m. I guess the comparable one would be a Manfrotto 475, that's also 4.3 KG.

Nah. I think this is a Chinese (or a German) knockoff of 055Pro, the rapid column one, even up to the foam handgrips. But mine is heavier. The head is a knockoff of (probably) 141RC, but is also heavier.

Yeh I use the Manfroto 055DB 2.2k plus 141RC head,  I dont need to extend it much as I am 180cm and the lowest is 8cm, its heavy enough to do the job, even at that it gets pretty heavy after a few hours lol
