Subject: Question about lighting - Figuring out distances

pzrite ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 1:07 AM · edited Sun, 28 July 2024 at 7:30 AM

I know in 3D Studio Max it shows you the zone of where the lighting will fall, it will show the distance and where the drop off begins. In Carrara, I'm finding it really difficult to light a scene properly because it will either come out too bright or too dark just because I cannot tell how far my lights are reaching. So it's a matter of trial and error, I keep changing the distances and rendering (and repeating the process until I can get it right) Is there a quicker and easier way to tell where the lights will cover and fall off in a scene? Thanks for any suggestions, Leee

Do you have the preview render set to opengl with scene lights? Using light maps and scene lights is better. Even with sw renderer there is an option for scene lights that is not selected by default. The only part that gets saved to prefs is whether to use OGL or SW. All the other settings do not get saved to prefs, but will be saved with file. So they have to be set everytime. C5 needs a bit better prefs config management.
