No, there are no special linkings required. The only thing I can think of in make sure you have increased the wind strength above zero. I uploaded a sample blend file if it will be any help to you. I added a subdivided plane, giving the top row of verts a weight of 1 and the rest zero, then added an empty and gave it a wind feild with a strength of .1
Thanks for the reply.
Darn, I was hoping I'd forgotten something, because now I don't know why it won't work!
I've tried the wind strength all the way up to 50, but without results - the flag just falls around the flagpole.
I'll have a look at your blend file and see if I can find anything different from mine.
Thanks again!

...and antacids aren't helping!
I've been playing around with softbody stuff, and I've made a nice little flag on a flagpole. The fabric simulation is working OK, (it falls and swirls around under the force of gravity), but I've also been trying to add an 'empty' and turn it into a wind force.
But no matter what I do, I can't get it to affect the flag in any way. Am I missing a step? I have a working, flag, and I have the wind generator... Do I have to do something to specifically link the two?
Thanks!
