Subject: bendy legged freaks! (my walk designer woes!)

hi

when i use walkdesigner with james casual (my copy that i use for mimic - its just a coppy that has been decompressed) it turns my boy into a bendy legged freak whos legs seam to cross through each other as he wobbles along the path -

any ideas on how to stop this (its my first steps in walk designer:)

also can you get pre made walks anywhere - if so where ( i am looking for a tv presenter type stroll and talk rather than the late for work strut that i seam to see comeing out of walkdesigner)

You can find a number of MoCap files at www.turbosquid.com. I noted there are several freebie files that are in fbx format that you'll need to convert. Of course, they also have a lot of mocap for purchase. The quality and cost of the files varies widely, though.

You can find pre-made motion files from a number of sources such as www.daz3d.com. However, you might benefit from working through the nice walk designer tutorial here: http://www.daz3d.com/support/tutorial/tutorial.php?id=922

try using limits when you set walk designer.

 

for a slower walk try retiming the animation to a longer period. 

 

a neat trick to cure both is to just take every 4th frame for a cycle, save the individual frame poses.  then reapply the poses over the longer length.  will help to eliminate jitter and leave lots of room for improvement or to add to the walk.  (like reporter with mike...hand must remain in front ot the figure.  just key that into the single frame poses you save out.)

 

you might get some unusual effects from the empty frames with the curves in the graphs...if you are getting overshoot and something goes way out of line, go to the previous key and make the spline straight instead of a curve.  (or enter more keys inbetween, but that is the quick fix)

 

remember to leave inverse kinematics on for the feet or the feet will drift around on the floor or through it.  you do need to turn it off if you are going to use dynamic cloth...but in that case just fill out the frames for all the leg part, then the feet will remain firmly planted.
