Subject: Photo-Realistic Textures Tutorial - Going completely crazy now!

StormChild69 ( ) posted Mon, 24 July 2006 at 2:44 AM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 2:18 PM

I was trying to do this tutorial and on Page 7 it says: Go to Edit>Select>by Material, and choose Eyeballs, Eyebrows, Eyelashes, Eyewhites, Irises, Lacrimal, Lips, Nostrils, Pupils, SkinHead and Upper Eyebrows. Then on Page 8 it says: All of these features will turn red in the window, and sizing boxes will appear in the corners. Mine doesnt have a sizing box and I cant do the next step which says: Drag the sizing boxes until the selected parts are in a small clear area of the template. I am using UV Mapper (v0.2.5a) for a MAC and as I started the tutorial told me to do the following: Go to File>Load Model, navigate to Runtime>Geometries>Zygote People and open the blMilWoman.obj file I couldnt find this file, and opened blMilWom_v3.obj file - considering it is V3 I want to map. I am so confused.. SMS (Save My Sanity) and someone help please!

Hi StormChild69,

The procedure you are referencing, is if you want to create a UV template from an existing model.  You don't need to map out V3, as there are several good UV maps out there- SnowSultan's being one of the best.  All you really need to do, in PSP or PS, is to copy the template to the clipboard.  Next, in a NEW file the same size as the template, paste the image as a new layer.  Rename this layer as template.  Next, copy and paste different pictures for the skin, eyes, etc on different layers.  Dodge, Burn, clone, to infinity.  Once you are happy with how it looks, turn the opacity level of the template layer to zero, and merge layers down.  Save as a jpg, and now you have a texture map.  If you need more help, check out Syyd's texturing forums at RDNA.  She has a step by step setup for a V3 texture creation spread along several threads.  I hope this helps? -Starkdog

blMilWoman.obj is Vicky 1 & 2, and was released by Zygote before its subsiderary DAZ split off from it.  All rights and priviledges to Vicky were sold by Zygote to DAZ after they became two seperate companies.  Therefore, V3 would not be installed in any folder labeled Zygote, as it was only released by DAZ after the seperation.  Vicky 1's and Vicky 2's mapping are very similar to the P4 Posette figure, except that the head texture has been even further enlarged (Posette was referred for awhile as 'Big Head,' as unlike the P3 figures, its head was enlarged and set in a seperate area of the template.  This allowed for finer detailing of the features), and both it and the body are assigned their own material groups: 'Skin Head' and 'Skin Body;'  whereas, Posette is just assigned the one material 'Skin,' (This is aside from such seperate materials as: Lips, Eyeballs, Iris, Nipples, etc.).
Whether this information helps you specifically or not, it might prove usefull to know before continuing any further.
Yours truly,
David P. Hoadley

The small black squares on the rectangle are the sizing boxes.

dphoadley, I hadnt read this before but you really should resist making ridiculous assumptions about people. Xantor, those boxes dont show up. I dont know why, but they dont.

David, don't you recognize frustration when you see or read it? We all say things when we are frustrated and often times we indicate defeat, but that doesn't mean we are defeated.  😄

I don't think it's very nice for you to keep rubbing StormChild's nose in what was obviously posted in a moment  of frustration.

It's better to be helpful and encourage than to ridicule.  At least that's my opinion.  A pat on the back and a helping hand goes far to pick people up and give them encouragement that they aren't alone.  😄

Acadia, I will appologise, but only after I see StormChild69 finish this project.  We all face frustrations in our lives, that's the very nature of the world -some of them even prove to be fatal.
I think I've amply demonstrated in the past that I'm not too proud, or full of myself to admit it when I'm wrong; However in this case, I'm letting my words stand as a challenge.

dphoadley take your challenge and shove it. I do not have to prove anything to the likes of  you. AND BY THE WAY! I did post a character that I TEXTURED in the other forum. I have nothing to prove to you or anyone else, so dont you dare "CHALLENGE" me like you are my father. I already have one thank you very much and one is bad enough.

Why dont you just get over yourself.

storm, UVMapper (free mac version) won't work for most tutorials involving UVMapper. it's understandable that they are unfamiliar with just how bad the free mac version sux, as the pro version is useful, but cox never bothered to write a version for X. I'd suggest using cheetah3D instead. p.s. MAC is an acronym for media access control. the correct spelling for the OS X machine is "mac" 😄
