Working on a dartboard and darts. The darts here were modelled in Wings3d and textured and rendered in Bryce. The burling on the grips is actual polys and not a texture. You can see it here best if you look at the closest dart (and the full size image). I'm not sure why I bothered (anal) as it probably won't show up in the final render at the size the darts will appear.

Next up, the dartboard, which I plan to fully model, and not just paste a target texture on a flattened cylinder (anal again).

Um... this is not going to be a championship kinda image or even a darts match sort of thing is it?

I only ask because real darts players wouldn't be caught dead with darts with plastic ends like those. (about 3 - 4 quid a set) Even the spare sets kept behind the bar are decent ones.  Real darts have a plastic or metal shaft with slots in them for pushing the separate flights into, and the flights aren't usually that shape, - it's the bit at the end of the flights, where the flights dip inwards that tells you they are cheap darts.  (apart from the shaft being the same colour/material as the flights)

Tungsten with titanium coating, kinda thing are my sort of darts, (about 25 - 35 quid) I've seen some John Lowe "golden" darts that looked quite nice around the upper end of that, but "gold" darts sounds a bit silly to me. (shrug)

Not that the modelling isn't great, I was just wondering why the cheaper darts?

Ah, I never played as a kid, only once I joined the army - you'd have been laughed at if you didn't have "proper" darts there.

Mind you, my dart playing - decent darts or not - started out as absolutely hilarious - did you know you can easily throw a dart into one of the ventilation holes (tiny things) around the dart board's overhead lightshade, but not the board itself!

i'm a bit better now, now I can (usually) get the dart into the board... somewhere.

In the early days, people used to stand well back when it was my turn.

It's amazing how far a dart will go (backwards) when it hits the wire...
