Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 16 10:02 pm)
I checked in here daily hoping for some kind of... anything. I didn't really expect to see or hear anything but thought "you never know".. To be honest I don't even know if eFrontier was there or not. If they were there they couldn't have made much of a splash as I've heard no reports of anyone getting wet.
Vue 5 was there and it was awesome. It seemed very stable and intuitive when creating clouds and pluging into Max back and forth.
Poser was there ofcourse and I got a little one on one demo which is why I'm in this forum. I'm going to combine Vue and Poser to create some cool animations. Just need to bring in Houdini or Touch animations for final render. That may be tricky. Can I just save a file with a sequence of .obj from another package and place then into Vue?

Almost 18 months since Poser 6 was released and not a whisper about Poser 7 - this is really hard to believe. This is doubly worse for me as when Poser 6 came out there was really nothing in it that was of interest to myself - mostly just render features. I need a robust character creation tool (that accommodates stylized characters) that allows my characters full movement - yes shoulders too. I want a professional interface as good as or better than Carrara's and I want a decent animation system that allows IK to be seamlessly switched on and off. How long do you need to wait for these things?
e-frontier was at Siggraph 2006. Their booth looked a bit cheap to me very lowtech for Siggraph.
The only thing really reported by people about the e-frontier booth was:
They showed off Magna Studio a bunch and that they were demoin the G2 males figures a bit.

Sounds like Poser 7 won't be on the horizon for a while then. This sickens me a bit when you compare the activity and output from Blender: 3 or 4 reports from Siggraph on there website along with video (and multiple updates of Blender every year).
Poser is the only program I can use to animate (I don't really have the time to start at the bottom of a new learning curve with Blender). Trouble with Poser at the moment is that you can't animate in a cartoon/stylized manner. It just looks plain stupid with James and any cartoon style rigs supplied out of the box just aren't up to the job. With the success of ‘The Incredibles’ and the like I’m surprised that e Frontier isn’t catering for the huge market of inspired animators out there.
MachineClaw thanks for posting the pictures - at last a picture of the e Frontier booth (I don’t think it looks too bad in your pics - it‘s a small company after all). I feel like I've found my favourite can of beans in a massive new supermarket.
I enjoyed meeting the few I did get a chance to meet and I am not sure what would have to be done to make a Trade Show Booth Hi-Tech! They all were about the same thing... Computers on Kiosks demoing software (we had 6 going). Some, like E-frontier had a Live Demo Show of various programs.. Poser, Shade, Motion Artist, Manga Studio, Virtual Fashion, Anime Studio and Figure Artist.
The picture of the e-frontier Kiosk is the one I was on most of the time, but that is not me in the picture. Sadly, I did not get a chance to take any pictures since I was working the entire show, with the exception of the time I was changing hotels or grabbing a quick bite to eat.

I got to meet the E-frontier group at the San Diego Comic Con. I asked them when the new version of Poser was going to be released. They couldn't really say. I do think they are working on it, just better not to get our hopes up and make a release date that they can't keep. Anyway, they are a nice group of people. As a good note, they sold lots of copies of Poser and Magna Studio at the show.
I for one think Poser does what it needs to do and does it well. The only thing I really would like to see improved is the interface and finding files easier. As I get older, reading really small text is getting harder for me. Sometimes finding an item takes longer then all the other stuff!

Hopefully all this silence about Poser 7 means that they're taking the (much needed) time to completely rewrite the code, getting rid of parts of the old code that don't work all that well, fixing the memory problem, integrating hyperthreading and dual core support, and improving the library/interface.
Hopefully.

Ok I finally cracked… I was hoping someone would have posted something about SIGGRAPH 2006. It's been and gone now and not a thing was mentioned about Poser.
Was there not even a single bubble of enthusiasm at this years show thrown at the Poser community – e Frontier was at Siggraph weren’t they? Not a single ripple on the net, I can’t believe it.
Can anyone fill this void with something?
Cheers
