Subject: Help with better Poser 6 render settings

3DNeo ( ) posted Sun, 20 August 2006 at 8:08 AM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 6:40 PM

I would like to get some input on what is the best settings for a great FINAL render and what settings are best in casual render drafts BEFORE final render? Currently I have expiermented with different Poser 6 settings in the prefs, like raytrace bounces, use displacment maps, max texture size, etc.

Thanks for any input, I thought it would be nice to compare with others too for what we use.

I use raytracing quite a bit, so I generally have several bounces, even for test renders, unless I am just testing for light levels, or checking for poke-through, when I may switch to the default automatic settings.   The texture size I tend to use is  1280, but that depends on the render dimensions.   I use 0.2 in minimum displacement bounds, ecause that avoids rendering problems with irritating little black lines.   I start off with a maximum bucket size of 64, but often have to reduce that, to get a render to complete (or even to start, in some case).   I always use displacement maps in the manual setting and never use texture filtering.   Whether  I have ever actually achieved a "great" final render, however, is another question and one which may render all the above merely academic ;¬) .

Here's mine. FireFly of course :)  I have it saved and rarely vary from it other than to change the background or add more ray bounces if I want more reflections.

I've noticed that checking Remove Backfacing Polys makes a lot of the hair styles
come out strange, especially Koz's hair.  Also, doesn't this cause mirrors to
not reflect the back of the character?  Supposedly using this shortens render
times, but I haven't noticed any difference, so I just leave it unchecked.

There are some good ***low and high*** settings listed here in this old thread by me(and my sick pc)Good descriptions by blackhearted of what rendersettings actually do.

This thread by unzipped is very informative too.

Fazzel, I've never had any problems with hair.  And the tuckus does show up in a reflective render. Check the floor in this render. I guess to check or not check is just a personal preference :)
