odie ( ) posted Tue, 29 August 2006 at 2:14 PM · edited Tue, 30 July 2024 at 3:11 AM

Hi everyone, I have a paper to write about the photographer Jerry Uelsmann. I have already ordered 3 books from the local library and I've checked the internet too. If anyone has other ideas where to look for info or what other resources I can get, LET ME KNOW! Hey... at my age it's great to back in school!! lol Jodie

He used to teach at the University of FL in Gainesville. I went to a special presentation he gave -- luv his stuff. Looks like you've got it covered...did you check Wikipedia? Otherwise, go to his house and interview him. :) Good luck!

Aren´t you constantly in school.....teacher and all i mean?

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

OMG, Uelsmann?  When I was actually still into/doing photography (about 5 years back, when I first started hanging out here) he was an amazing influence on me - found out about him by accident and spent about a month trawling the web for his stuff/articles about him!  A worthwhile paper to be doing, and I'm sure the interest will continue long after you've finished it!

OMG KORT! I live in Minnesota. The best I could wish for would be a phone call. Do you think he is still teaching in Florida? Do you know where I can get an address or phone number? With this paper due Sept. 18 don't know if I can manage a flight. lol Andreas....YES, "sigh", I am a perpetual student. But, be nice or my next class might be a language course...Sweeeedish 101, without the internet translator. ReBorne...thank you! Your reply has gotten me psyched for this paper. :-D Jodie

Careful there Bobby, you are dating yourself. ;oP Sorry Jodie, I don't have any info on his recent whereabouts for you, but Piet seems to have come up with some links.

Thanks, everyone for the wonderful info.  It's great to know where to go for help!!  I'll sit down this weekend and type it up.  Should I list you all as a reference?   heh heh.

Bobby, don't worry about being dated... it's been a long time since I was on a date, so count yourself lucky!   lol

omg, Jodie, what the hell you on about?  Damn if I wasn't so tied up myself, I wouldn't think twice about asking you.  And when you stopped laughing, I'd ask you again...... (",)

Well, thanks to Jodie, I went out and bought his Other Realities book. All I can say is WOW! To be fair, most of the images are on his website, but to see them full size is just a wonder. Beautiful reproductions. I marvel at his darkroom mastery.

Kort, OTHER REALITIES is one of the books I brought home from the library. Isn't it wonderful?? I am allowed to submit between 10-15 of his images (on a disk) for my paper and I cannot decide! Also, do you see the difference in his style as the years go on? I think I do, but still pondering. He dedicated a very cool one to Man Ray. Love that they somehow crossed paths. ooops.... I ramble. Hope the week goes well for all.

Yes, his style evolved over the years. Do you remember the not too distant revival of the Outer Limits TV show? When first aired, they used his photos in a montage for the opening.
