Subject: Reply to comments?

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I was wondering whether it would be possible to allow us to reply on comments?

It just makes it SO much easier to discuss an image if you can reply on a comment, instead of sending notes to and fro the whole time.

Please consider it as an enhancement? I reckon it will make a HUGE difference to the usability of the site.

Thanks guys.

Hi FuzzyYak,

The comments should really be used to just comment on the image and not so much as a "discussion" platform about an image or image topic so we really don't want to open that up for multiple comments at this time.

We will keep this thought with us as we move forward for future reference.

Hi Stacey.

Firstly, thank you for answering.

I have to ask though: Why not? Why wouldn't you want a discussion on the image? Most comments are but that - a discussion. But at the moment it's a one-sided discussion unless the poster starts noting to and fro.

I have seen it quite often that people post on their own images in answer to a comment that was left - be it an answer to a question or just a quick "Thanks" for a compliment. The problem is that the person it was intended for will NEVER see that comment, unless they go into the image again, which I'm sure happens very seldom.

I believe that allowing people to actually discuss images will be most beneficial as another tool to build the Renderosity community.

That's just my ten cents worth, feel free to pass me some change :)

one "yes" vote from me on allowing the users to discuss images with back-and-forth comments. it's still the same amount of work for the admins, either way. if the users get into "comment wars", the admins can be notified in the same way they're alerted when somebody makes an offensive comment.

We really don't feel the comment section is the best place to hold a "discussion" that is best for the forums, chat or through Site Mail.  Some images get alot of comments as it is and if we allowed multiple comments the pages would make it hard to keep up with.

I understand some of the pros of it but please understand that for now we feel this way has been working for some time now and would like to leave as is.

I will put it on my list to discuss for future enhancements.

Fair enough. I know that that is BY FAR my biggest gripe with 'rosity at the moment - the fact that I can't thank someone for a compliment without a lengthy procedure.

It's good to know that you will keep it in mind

**I have an idea, maybe if there are comments on a piece you can create a thread in the forum and attach the link to that thread on the comments board? Just a thought.

Regarding the forum link suggestion: I did actually think about doing that, but it just seems like a very round about way to get feedback on an image and I'm not entirely sure that people would be interested in going through that much trouble?

Who knows? I'll try it on a picture or two and see.

Well I would do so on the pics that garner discussion already started so to speak...you know someone says, "Wow, how did that get done" or something like that...then add the link to a forum! Otherwise it might look sort of smug?! LOL! You know....

Well, that's exactly the thing - then I have to send the person a private message let them know to check out the forum, where I might as well have just sent them a note on how I did it.

At the end of the day, it's up to 'rosity whether they want to do that or not, I guess. It does wonders for another big art site I know of... shrug

the chief difficulties with discussing gallery images in the forum are: 1. it reeks of self-promotion, hence it's rarely done  2. it's another opportunity for trolls to rear their ugly heads there is an art theory forum here, where users can post images for critiques, but it's rarely used, as almost no users actually want critiques, despite what they say to the contrary.
