but I have never used them much because I found it too difficult to pose my figures holding them. I could do it but it took me hours. Well lately there's been two sets with pankos guns at vanishing point which have poses and guns that work together. And now there is gear as well. In panko's GI Combat Gear-M3_Vietnam set you get the strappy stuff and pouches and grenades, a pistol, holster as well as the rifle with strap and some really great poses. I've used the daz desert soldier trousers in this pic and boots, but I have bought the new vanishingpoint BDU, just haven't had time to load it into my runtime or make any renders with it as yet. I had a few problems with their paypal link but finally got it working (where there's a will there's a way) today. Now if we can just pursuade Panko to make a V3 set for the combat gear, my poser runtime will be complete (for the next 5 minutes) Love esther

Yes, posing hands is a total PITA, regardless of whether it's for holding a gun or some other weapon or having them interact with one anothe, or hold some object.

yes, getting the correct pose can be a challenge...but it shouldn't take that long to position your weapons and stuff. are you "parenting" your weapons to the character body? i usually create a pose that i want, i save it to the pose library, then i deck my gal/guy up in a "zero pose" and attach all armourment, click the pose in the library, make minor adjustments and your done.

hope this helps.

Well what I;'ve found since buying these sets is, it's not that hard to modify the poses to make them fit other guns and other things as well. It's just so good to have a nice starting point. And it's really good that there's some V3 gun poses around as well, with the matching guns to make life really easy. My V3 feels much more secure now and is ready for any mission. Well I just hope Panko brings out a similiar vietnam gear set for V3 then I'll be absolutely wrapped. Love esther

mrpeabody You are quite right and I've since learned this from my new bought guns and poses sets. , well one of the problems I had was my colt 45 that I originally had and really liked for my V3 had something wrong with it's joint positioning, as when I tried to move it into position it would go in wide circles. People here suggested I fiddle with the joint thingies, but I found it difficult. Now that I've seen how the gun poses work I can definitely make them fit other weapons that I have, and thanks to Panko I have a new colt 45 that works well too. Love esther

The other trick to posing props is to add them to Poser figures in the default position and then resaving the prop as a smartprop. If you've already got a figure into a pose you want, just save that file, start a new one, load the figure, pose the prop, parent it to the figure's hand (or whatever body part it's associated with), and save it as a smartprop. Go back to the saved file, add the smartprop, and it should load right into the posed figure's hand.

It would be nice if Poser had a command that would zero an object's origin so that it wouldn't have to be modifed in the Joint Editor. I've tried moving origins in the Joint Editor and sometimes it's a breeze. Other times, moving one axis causes undesirable shifts in another axis and it becomes a time consuming trial and error effort to move it in place. It's often simpler to use the Direct Manipulation Tool (which should have a dials option to constrain motion to one axis).

rreynolds,

With a prop you you can use paramiter dials to move the origin if you select "Display Origin" from the props 'Properties'. You don't get to see the 'endPoint' this way, but then you don't usually need to change this unless you are going to use "Point At" on the prop. Generally you should change the origin when the prop in in it's zeroed state. Otherwise changing the origin can move the prop.

I have attached the text of a pz2 (pose) file, that will zero the origin of the selected prop or actor. I have had to attach this as a ".doc" file, as this site no longer supports the attachment of ".txt" files. This is the first time I have tried attaching a "*.doc" file, hopefully clicking the link will open a download box. Save the file to a Pose folder, then use a file manager (eg Windows Explorer) to change the file extension to ".pz2". This pz2 will only work in P5 and up, P4 users are out of luck.

I included the pz2 to zero the origin because rreynolds said:

And in deed this can be handy, but it should be noted that whilst zero is sometimes the best place for the origin, this is by no means always the case, It will depend on how the prop was made, and what it is. In genral, with a weapon or utensil, the origin should be at the place where the hand will grasp it. With a sword this will be the middle of the hilt, with a spear somewhere near its center, with a hammer somewhere near the end of the shaft. These positions may, or may not corrispond to zero, depending on how the item was made. The point being that the origin is what the prop will pivot round when you use its rotation dials.

okay, I will bear that in mind. Thanks. Love esther
