Subject: Help, Poser 6 keeps crashing after re-installation in new hard drive

AshleyW ( ) posted Thu, 21 September 2006 at 4:25 AM · edited Sun, 01 September 2024 at 11:37 AM

Hello all,

I upgraded my notebook with a new, bigger hard drive yesterday and re-installed my Poser 6.  However, after installing P6 + SR1 + ContentUpdater + SR2 (the steps I had done for my old drive), Poser 6 keeps crashing when I click on the "Open" button in the File dropdown menu (to open my old files).

In addition, it freezes when I click on the "+" icon to add new runtimes into my Library Pallette.

These have never happened when Poser 6 was in my old drive.   Thinking that I might have neglected some steps, I have reinstalled P6 and SR1,CU, SR2 several times to get it right, but the problems persist.   I also notice that P6 actually already crashes after I install  P6+SR1 only.   I restart my computer and install the rest, and the crashing problems continue.

All my other applications work just fine.   What went wrong with my P6 reinstallation?

Your advices will be much appreciated!

P.S.  My notebook has 1.40GHz pocessor and 1.23GB RAM as before upgrading to the new drive, and Poser 6 worked just fine before its reinstallation in the new drive.

Go straight on with the SR3 upgrade.  Then launch Poser 6.  See if that works.

Hi, infinity 10, thanks!   Wow, there is SR3 already, I thought it's only SR2.

But where should I download the SR3, e-frontier or Content Paradise?

try e-Frontier.

You will need your serial numbers.

Thank a bunch!   I'll go there now.

Hello all, after installing P6+SR3, the same problems happen.

I also find that P6 won't save a file.   It also crashes when I click on "Save".

Need your advice to solve these.   Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Make sure your video drivers are up to date.

Also, firewalls can be a problem.  Try turning off your firewall and visiting each "room" in Poser.  You can turn your firewall on again after you do that.

Hi randym77, thank you for the advice.   My video drivers are the same as before when P6 worked just fine, so I'm now guessing it's the firewall issue.

But what do you mean by "room" in Poser?

Thanks!

Ashley

The tabs.  The pose room, the setup room, the hair room, the cloth room, etc.

It might still be the video drivers.  It's weird how it works.  Sometimes after you reinstall, the same video drivers you used before don't work any more.  It's really fluky.

Thanks randym77.   I'll go test them now.
