...I've managed to actually finish a render. I don't like it all that much mind you, but I do like the model and it seemed appropriate for the time of year. At this point I should probably confess that I started out trying to create the model in Bryce, finally gave in to temptation and did it in a certain more aviary application in about a third of the time.

LOL, You're not a heretic, It's only a matter of utilizing all the tools in your arsenal.

Nice modeling job.
I think the render is fine, try a different POV, even your crop area over the top of the house with the lead in from the foreground and a slightly pitched FOV from the ground. It'll give you that approaching doom feeling like a trick-or-treater. Maybe the moon in the BG too.

I would also suggest more trees. Make it seem more isolated.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
