Working in manual mode with an f stop of 5.6 and a shutter speed of 13 seconds with the camera on a tripod.

Here is another with the same specs.  The clouds are getting a little blurry with the long shutter speed.

One more, same as before.

You could use lower F stops because at that distance the DOF is big anyway. By using a lower F setting You get more light and you need less time, making the clouds less blurry.

PS. please lose the animation in your signature. Images in signatures are anoying and animated stuff even more so

Cool series of shots. 3DGuy is right to suggest the more open aperature for short exposure times, but then again you may have missed that lightening if you hadn't done it that way. The motion of the clouds is especially cool in the top one. Hehe, what you don't like my avatar 3D? Everyone has their own preferrences I suppose. :)

I'm not talking about avatars, I've got no problems with that. I'm talking about (animated) images in signatures
In this case:

Most forums I frequent have banned images in signatures.

Anyhow, it's not my intention to hijack this thread :D Lets get back to clouds.

Hey Dan! Nice clouds!

Did a little myself, probably from the same storm you got down in Arizona...  ...with a little post work in Photoshop CS-2.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks 3DGuy I am sorry the animation bothers you.   I really needed the time to get the lightening.  I took about 40 exposures and only about eight actually had some lightening that was worth looking at.   I appreciate the tip on DOF.

Nice cloud pic TwoPynts. Living in Florida must give you lots of opportunities to shoot clouds and storms.  Yesterday I experimented with shooting time lapse cloud sequences.  I spent a couple hours with a stopwatch getting frames every two minutes.   Later I discovered that the whole process can be automated through the self timer menu on the Canon.

Good looking rainbow Joe.  That storm must have picked up some steam after leaving Las Vegas.  I really am loving how the new Canon images at night.  Did you see the stars in my pics?  I am anxious to get out in the country on a moonless night to see if I can capture constellations.  I finally found the part that I was looking for to get my tripod working.

Congrats on the new cam. That is a nice feature that many other cameras don't have, mine included. Yes, we get some great storm clouds around here. Looking forward to the star shots!

I will chime in here and say that I have to agree with 3Dguy about the animation in the signature.

Please take some consideration for those of us on dial-up...the animation in the sig just steals our already limited bandwidth.....we now need to wait for your 60kb animation to load up just to read the thread.  I'm not really sure what it is...and I'm not really sure what purpose it serves.

One of the reasons that I don't have a chance to view all the uploads in the photo and Tgen galleries is that with dial-up it just takes too long to load them all.   I don't want to be faced with that in the forums as well.

Sorry, but remember, not all of us have access to high speed...so, please don't make the already slow Rendo site even slower.

In youth, we learn....with age, we understand.

Hey Dan. How about a trip up to Washington County Utah? It'd be nice if I could find someone with a 4X4 to give us a lift up top of Upper Smiths Mesa for the sunset looking into Zions National Park. I'd like to go down to the bottom of the Hurricane Mesa for the star shots. The stars cause the white strips of stone in the mesa to sort of glow in the dark. It can be a very religious experience.

Thanks TwoPynts.
Gradient you are right.  Us dialup users need to stick together.
Joe I was in Utah a few years ago at the Dugway Geode Beds and Topaz Mountain.   I had a good time apart from almost having a heart attack trying to get up the mountain.  Northern New Mexico is also spectacular for haveing sparse city lights to mess with your star photography.

I love the one with the tunnel.  I want to move in there and make it my secret headquarters.

I remember your tunnel shot. Very cool. :) Isn't there a StarGate in there somewhere? ;'P
