Subject: ICCQ: IPO Curve creation question

Silgrin ( ) posted Mon, 09 October 2006 at 8:00 AM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 1:44 PM

Just a mad problem: I`m going through a videotut about softbodies that calls me to animate wind. I should run the IPO window, click FFStrength from the right-hand list, and create a curve by clicking the graph. However, nothing happens when I click: LMB and MMB does nothing, RMB inserts a vertical line instead of the horizontal curve, and Ctrl- Alt- and Shift-clicking does many odd things but not inserting the curve. The official Blender manual tells to Ctrl-leftclick. What is on Earth the way of creating an IPO curve in Blender?!

i have had the same problem, i am pretty sure its not problesm with curves in general, just ipo curves for editing wind strength

OK, then how should I create and edit it? :)

i am not completely sure, but what i think you do is go to the frame you want to edit "arrow keys"  and then there is a button you press on your keyboard similar to how it is done in flash except not quite as easy

ok, button is the letter "I" to make a keyframe, this adds a verticy to the ipo curve at the current frame.  once you click the letter I it will ask you which to make a keyframe for, pick the one that applies.  make sure you make the keyframe for the first frame of the animation first and make sure you move to the frame you want to make a keyframe in before editing the next possition.  there should realy be a better tutorial for this. unfortunatly i am not the person to make it because my intrests do not lie in this area anymore and i am almost completely clueless when it comes to ipo curves.

oh, and actualy, like i just figured this out by accident 20 seconds ago and i am sooo pleased now, to make an ipo curve for the feilds streignth or any other special setting for that matter, place the mouse over the setting you would like to change and press i.  this will bring up an ipo menu for that specific setting which can not be accessed anywhere else.

oh, and right drag to move verticies on the ipo curve.  left click, changes what frame you are editing in

That's a neat tip, thanks!

i actualy just figured that out while i was typing that.  before i posted that post i had no idea either how to create an ipo curve for editing forces.  btw, it also works in materials.  but it doesnt work when editing a curve object or non mesh object

Silgrin ( ) posted Thu, 12 October 2006 at 2:46 AM

Oops... Maybe it`s specific to 2.42. When I pressed I, I was presented with only one option: "Insert key vertices-Current frame". After confirming the requester, I see no change on the graph. Clicking it does nothing, exactly as before.

Finally, it started working after I changed the pointing mouse button from LMB [my own setting to avoid unappreciated 3D cursor moving] to the default right... and again. Maybe there was some error in my configuraion file, since it started working exactly as I fruitlessly tried before: with Ctrl-LMB [or Ctrl-RMB, depending on which *MB is used to select objects]. And, as sb adviced me on Polish Blenderownia, hitting Tab allowed me to edit Bezier coordinates on each point.

So, going fwd and let`s wait for the next troubles :P

Cheers, and have a nice day... until I present you with another hip of obstacles :P

you must make sure the ipo curve is in object mode.  then make sure the ipo curve for the force is enabled for viewing.  to do this extend the window of the ipo curve to take up most of the window.  all the way at the right of the ipo window are some names such as Xloc Yloc and so on.  all the way at the bottom there is a object something like Fcurve or something like that (i am not infront of blender so i cant tell you.
