Subject: Who are the best second skin makers?

fauve ( ) posted Sun, 22 October 2006 at 2:21 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 5:44 PM

I like using second skin (painted directly on the texture) clothing, because i use a lot of extremely morphed characters which are otherwise hard to fit, even with utilities like Wardrobe Wizard.   So I've been trying to keep a list of vendors and freestuff makers who I think do really good second-skin clothing.  Danie's at the top of the list, along with HocusPocus and Fenrissa (ApoGraphix.)   All of them do very realistic trompe l'oeil clothing that looks great in renders.  But with so many people in Poserdom, I'm sure I've missed a few great ones.

So... who are your favorite second-skin artists?  Who do you think does the best texture-painted clothing?

Loads of second skin textures for V3 at this link.

This is my first garment.  It goes on, over your current texture map, with Python.py, and comes with a Photoshop.PSD full of Alpha Channels to get you started customizing.

The images are with and without Bump/Dissplacement, from top to bottom.

I hear ya, I bought that 2nd skin prog, yet there's barely ANY supporting textures for it..It's still a good prog, it's a HELL of a lot better than clothes converter.. Barely no support for that prog, { had major issues had to play email tag to get it working!}and you have to PAY for the patches!..Oh...Yeah, he calls them "Updates" next time you purchase a utility prog, CHECK for the support first!

Zew3d sell a programme that allows you to add secondskins to any texture you choose. The main programme is a bit pricey, but the add-on clothing packs are reasonably priced.

Otherwise, my character favourites with secendskins would be by Rhiannon, DM & Freje.

LOL! I forgot about that prog! I didn't get it myself because I like to make my own materials in the mat-room, but it's a great program nonetheless!

I just saw this link via the freebie section!

I do wish that people would sell just the 2nd skins...

especially with poser 5 having been free.  it's really easy to layer textures in the material room  if you have an alpha channel tex and the texture itself.  the moment someone puts just a hair texture alpha/texture set on the market (eyebrows, chest hair, different beards and goatees), i'll snap it up.  unimesh or g2, whatever, so long as it's mapped to a figure i have.

They do, you just need to know where to look, most are under merchant resources...

I have this product & it is excellent - Unimesh Real Clothes, I used it in my Gloria character.

Most of the other secondskins I have done though, I have done from scratch, it is not that hard to do really if you have a graphics programme - click on attached piccie for examples. The hardest part is getting the grament shape right. I make a template with just a plain colour to make sure seams match etc before I start on the actual clothing item.

The trouble with secondskins though is when you extreme morph the character you chance stretching the pattern which sometimes looks odd.

P.S. I am not saying I am great, but that you could probably do your own with a bit of effort.

One of the merchants here that does some really wicked 2nd skins is Syltermermaid, she has some really nice and stylish skins for her models.  I have yet to purchase a model from her that has less then 5 complete 2nd skin outfits.

The other top choices for me have already been listed above, but, a pair that hasn't been mentioned is XTrinityX and Hedda, (my absolute fave artists) they team up alot and have come up with some really mind blowing 2nd skin designs.
