You might try a reinstall but,..............have you tried importing the model into Bryce and then saving it as a Bryce object to one of the libraies first, then closing Bryce, re-open Bryce then load the object from the library, then texturing ? This might work if you haven't tried it this way,..........probably not but it's worth a try if you haven't already. With me it's been tweaked Poser textures,..........I like to tweak the bumpmaps or tranparency maps sometimes,...........I always get crashes doing this,.......absolutely no workarounds. It's a real pain in the butt ! I hope they fix this soon ! I can't use the bug reporting applet,.............it(wait for it) Crashes Repeatedly !!

Nope, not ran into any crashes like that at all.

Mine crashes too, but not in the same circumstances. I have scene of medium complexity (don't remember the poly count) and I'm trying to add a little hinge to a port hole. All goes well until I try to save - then it crashes saving nothing. I tried this several times, once loading the port hole into Bryce 5, adding the hinge and saving it. But when I open the scene in 6, replace the port hole, and try to save . . . boom. Now I understand my PC is short on ram and overall horse power and is sometimes a little wonky, but this really shouldn't be that big a deal.
So, I'm rebuilding the scene in Bryce 5 . . . . with no HDRI (sniff).
Maybe I'll try reloading Bryce 6, but I don't hold much hope for it. Perhaps I can use 6 just to render. hrumph!

Works for me to, including putting things in all four spots... Probably worth reinstalling to see if that gets rid of it.

Hmm. I have Byrce 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, & 6.0 installed on my computer, and not had any strange crashes.
(but I am still on Win 2000 Pro; I have heard some complaints from XP and XP-64 users)

I had something like this happen when I was trying to delete a hanger from a picture frame. Every time I tried to delete it it crashed. But when I ungrouped it and then deleted it it was fine. Maybe ungroup what you are working with?
Quote - Interestingly enough what seems to have gotten rid of it, at least for the moment, was completing the install of the default content. I oringally just installed the app and opened it to play. Since adding the content the crash hasn't occurred...yet.
That's definitely true. I have a very good friend who found he had to install all the presets and everything before he could do anything without crashes. Now his is fine.
After rebuilding my scene in ver. 5, I loaded it into v6 and rendered it - worked fine. Then I made some adjustments and rerendered - still fine. As I said before my PC's a little wonky. Hopefully, with a clean boot and not to much scene swapping all will be well. Thanks everybody!

I also use Win 2000 Pro SP4. I am seriously thinking of installing Vista RC1 for compatibility testing, since 32 bit Vista will handle up to 4 GB ram. Triple boot: 2K SP4, Vista RC1, Novell/SuSE Linux 10.0.
Keeping that multi-boot would be advisable.

Before anyone advises me to do so I have already submitted this as a bug but...
Imagine my chagrin when I popped open my new Bryce 6 today and had it repeatedly crash.
If I try to add an image as a texture. I click the little "A column" bubble and BANG! crash.
It doesn't matter what lighting setting I am using (I first thought it was effected by the fact that I was using the new HDRI), or what type of object I am trying to texture, or what else is in the scene. Trying to click the bubble crashes it.
Anyone else run into this? Or should I just try a re-install.
