Subject: ...The Big 64 Bit Question...

Veritas777 ( ) posted Sat, 04 November 2006 at 3:32 PM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 6:33 PM

...I'm SURE it has been brought up before- but now that V6i Pre-Release is out- HOW do they (E-on) handle the 64 Bit OS's???

That's kind of a TWO-PART Question-

  1. Is the Pre-Release AVAILABE as a 64 Bit version? I am surprised that I don't see anyone asking about this, or talking about it so far with V6i-PR...(Heh, note it's the "PR" version!  LOVE IT)

  2. AND if SO that a 64-Bit version is out- are people running it successfully on Windows XP 64-bit??? (Don't have a MAC, sorry).

The 64bit version is automatically installed when you install it on a 64bit machine - as far as i know (have seen others talking about it), i am using a Mac.

What i can say is that the thing is damned fast on my Mac Pro with two dual core processors. Even on my Mac Intel, Windows side it is not too bad i must say.

...WELL!...that's EXCITING to here...sounds like maybe I should get pre-prepared first then by getting the Windows 64-Bit XP version and seeing what type of HELL that puts me through, heh!

...maybe I should visit some WinXP 64 bit forums and find out what I need to do...

I am running 64 bit version of Vue 6 xStream on XP 64 on a dual 5160.

When you installed Vue on XP 64, it prompts you for either 32 bit or 64 bit.  I believe you can have both.

I am issues with Vue 6 xStream on my machine  - not sure if they 64 bit only problems.

   1. Floating license issue where it drop connections and readds it - A pretty annoying message comes up.  ( even happens with no scene loaded )

 2. Crashes on render some times - non responding and screen indicates 100%

I have contacted e-on technical support on both issue and quite serious speaking also.

Render speed is very fast because of 4 3Ghz Core 2 based cores on the machine, unfortunately reliability of the software is in serious question right now for me.

I have no such issues with Lightwave 9 64 bit on same machine.

Both 32 bit and 64 bit versions can be installed on same Windows 64 bit - they share documents area.

The license problem still happens - not sure about reliability issue .

I'm running Vue6 on XP-64 with no problems.  When you install Vue, it automatically installs the 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on your machine.

And installing XP-64 is no worse than installing 32-bit XP.  Looks the same, acts the same.   Just be sure you have the correct drivers before you start.  I didn't have trouble with any of that, but I just built  a new system.

...Yes, I'm gathering info now...I bought an Athlon 64 a couple of years ago with fast nVidia card, etc.. checking to see what I need in the way of drivers...I THINK I will be o.k. as everything I have is pretty much the MAIN STREAM and what E-on recommends on their website...

But I need to re-educate myself on wither my A64 3200+ is still adequate enough- and KNOW that my 1.5 GB RAM needs to go up to 4 GB to be in the 64 bit ball game...

I'm hoping E-on gets this registration scheme CLEARLY set-up and "beta-tested" before I get there!

The problem with licenses is related to Floating License, not sure about the crashes - but I believe others have also seen it with Floating licenses.  My version is also xStream version if that makes any difference.

...yes, I'm ready to switch over to 64bit XP now- I've asked ALL AROUND and everyone says GO with the 64bit XP version, NOT VISTA- mainly because vista asks for "signed drivers" and other hassles that 64XP doesn't have...

MS is still tweaking Vista- and it's meant for a wider public audience- 64XP seems to be geared more to the "git'er DONE" technical user ...

Vista does bring up an interesting issue, I have the License server installed on XP64, if I have Vista and desired to use Vue, I will need the licenser server on Vista - will that be allowed.
