Subject: Is Vue good for urban lanscapes?

ttheterr ( ) posted Tue, 07 November 2006 at 11:06 AM · edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 9:59 PM

Hey all - been working with Poser for alittle over a year now and up until recently I've been purchasing my environments (ka-ching!) * I've been going back and forth between Bryce and Vue websites and notice that most of the "architectural" settings are futuristic - here's what I'm trying to do.

  1. Build a real world environment both interior and exterior (here is an example of the kinds of exterior "real world" env. I'd like to build): http://www.daz3d.com/shop.php?op=itemdetails&item=4627

  2. Create atmosphere environments (clouds, sunrays, etc.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have pretty much NO experience with cgi software for environments.

Thanks!

when you say "build" do you mean construct from exsisting sources? Or do you want to model the scene. If the first there are numerous assets available here @ renderosity and all over trhe web.

Vue is not really a modeller so I might suggest Silo (nervecenter.com). It's a straight forward box modeller, good basic tool set and it's cheap!

Eh - I guess I meant construct from existing sources. What assets are you referring to here on Renderosity? I've purchased "sets" on here which were great, but I wouldn't mind creating a few myself only because I wouldn't want to buy something that's exactly the same as what everyone else can buy.

Also, I notice a lot of futuristic landscapes which look beautiful but I need urban landscapes.. abandoned buildings, overturned cars, deserted streets etc.

I will look into silo, thanks for that. But I checked out the demo footage of Vue on the efrontier site and it looks amazing! I like the skies/clouds and some of the images from the image gallery is something I'd LOVE to pull off (there one call morning.. glow? purple sky etc.) something I can have my poser characters move around in.

Thanks!

I think you'd like vue. YOu can import all your poser scenes very easilly then add things. Or one thing I do is take something like stonemason's scenes, duplicate them in vue, then past them (it's as easy as copy and paste) and place them rotated next to each other to create the effect of big cities. Here's one I did with andi 3d stuff. It's a picture I did a long time ago with an older version of vue. Love esther

MY ONLINE COMIC IS NOW LIVE

I aim to update it about once a month.  Oh, and it's free!

Building from available resources? Hmmm For contemporary, there is the MICS by Dendras hosted at Renderotica, and PICK hosted are RDNA. Both are interior architectural assembly kits with slightly different methods. You'd also want to check out Transpond's series of structures; while many are era specific, a change in texture and nifty light fixtures can give them a modern 'retro-goodoldays' look and feel to them. There is furniture and fixtures scattered all over poserdom, and a growing library of same for Vue at C3D. Both Stonemason and Andi 3D do very nice dying or dead urban structures as well.

The Urban city buildings in your link  - Stonemason created them in 3DS Max.

As mdt says - Vue is not a good modelling program.

One of it's big strengths (beyond natural landscapes) is that it can import from a HUGE variety of other modelling apps. There are some for free (Wings3D) and some that don't cost very much (Silo - as mentioned above). Vue is NOT afraid of a huge polygon count, and its lighting tools (surprisingly powerful BTW) are easy to learn.

In short, it's a fantastic "finishing" tool. I've got XSI Foundation and C4D XL Bundle, and MOST of what I do is modelled in one of those two and brought into Vue for scene assembly, lighting and rendering (yes, passing on Mental Ray and Advanced Renderer - I can hear those in the C4D and Mental Ray forums crying now...).

Sounds like if you got a copy of Vue Infinite and Silo you'd be in urban environment Heaven for your Poser characters.
hope that helps-
-Lew ;-)
