We all should have so much time on our hands!!!!! JK, Andreas!!!! I totally agree Fred! His shots are amazing and there is no way I would even attempt them, cuz all you would see is blury water! LOL ;p
Andreas......... Drop Master!!!! Whoo Hoo!!!!

There is one thing that Andreas didn't do but could though should NEVER do... and that is mix two chemicals and make a fiery drop shot. Andreas actually "MAKES" photographs (of drop shots) where (some) others just take snaps Well done Andreas :thumbupboth: your latest fan drop is awesomely amazziiiing!!
Question the question. Answer the question. Question the
answer...
I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP
Who can possibly say those photos are boring? I admired them so much that i did couple myself. Andreas and Kai both took the time to explain to me how they achieved such wonderful inspiring photos.
Drop shots are truly a reflection of a skilled photographer. The correct camera settings are a must. As well as lighting and manner of creating the perfect drop. People appreciate different things in life.
Some like the colour blue whilst others like the colour pink. Who are we to judge. But you keep those opinions to yourself. If you dont like landscapes so be it. If you dont like portraits so be it. But never make that photographer feel bad about his perfection of his craft.
To me jealousy is a curse of the soul.
Chris
I totally agree! His drop shots are amazing and something I haven't attempted yet. Never could they be boring, although I know some people probably complain, but too bad! ;) It's nice to give credit where it's due, and Andreas more than deserves that credit. :)
~Damia~ LeviathanPhotography
I just want to set something straight here. Nobody commented on Andreas' dropshots to call them boring. Me and someone else commented on other people's dropshots in different circumstances, without ever mentioning Andreas' works... Andreas read it and took it personally. And found it necessary to make some accusations. Now if someone makes a critical remark on one of my images, should I accuse him/her of being jealous..? As in: "I don't like your framing here" - "Oh, you're just jealous, just because you don't know how to do those frames, nah-nah!" We all have our individual things or themes that are of interest to us. We may find some things not interesting. For me, I'm not interested in any particular subjects, but more in the way an image is built up, regardless of the subject. That's all there is to it. In case you want to know, this is the comment I left under Newbie_Renderer's dropshot image: " Well, this is one of those rare dropshots that isn't boring ;o)) Exellent composition and wonderful colors..! " This comment was meant to be humorous, referring to an earlier comment by someone else (admitting my weird sense of humour)... If you want to condemn me for that comment (as Andreas seems to do), feel free to do so... you'll be the judge (since I already stand accused) ;o))

Lets all just say we are all different and we each have our own images we love and interested in. Comments arent meant to be personal but to state our honest opinion of how the image moves us.
And to be honest its me who is jealous of so many wonderful photographers on here. If i could be so good. I am cursed because i just have this passion to be like you. Each one is unique in their own way. One day with lots of experience and wisdom from you all i know i might succeed. And with alot of luck. I say that to alot of my close friends on here how jealous i am of them.
But their is one thing i wish to say. That is we are all from different countries, and speak and write our own lingo(Aussie slang here). When i have visited my friends in the US sometimes i say things that are offensive in their country. Where as in mine isnt. So i feel that we have to be aware of that. Because alot of things typed in here may have completely different meaning to another.
Dont anyone be hurt by others. Because alot of times its miss communication. If a comment or something someone has said hurts you. Write an im to that person and give them the chance to explain themselves.

Chris
Yes Chris, I'm already sorry for my first reply above. If I could, I would delete it. I would better have kept things for myself... it's just that I felt like I was randomly being accused of jealousy (although my name wasn't mentioned), when the actual original circumstances were just not like that. All credit where credit is due, indeed... And lots of these things wouldn't be as sharply stated in spoken communication... that's the trouble with written words sometimes... My apologies. Geert

Awww shucks! Aren´t you all too darn sweet for words. Thank you very much. As for the latter part of this thread i would also like to add my 2 euros worth.
Yes Geert i took it personally...but shouldn´t i have? You´ve already admitted to me an IM that your comment was directed at me as an attempt to tease me. And i don´t have a problem with that. Like it has been said, written words has a tendency of becoming interpretated in the weirdest ways. I don´t have a problem with people finding drop-shots boring either. What i fail to understand however is how a comment saying "i´m bored" will do anyone any good. Where´s the constructive advice or encouragement in that? Every day i see 20 times as many flower-shots or cat-shots....and i have yet to see a comment on those that says "i´m bored with these...move on". Why is that? The reason i reacted so strongly was because that said person who received that comment didn´t deserve it. It was her second attempt ever, it wasn´t like she was cluttering the galleries with dropshots all by herself. She should have been encouraged instead of being told that she shouldn´t do those boring things again. There is a very simple solution for those that are bored with a certain "theme"....just look away. You should certainly not waste any time commenting only to state that you´re bored with it since it´s utterly pointless and doesn´t do anyone any good.
I have also today been told by someone, that taking drops shouldnt´be considered photography since it´s just random pressing of the shutter and then hoping that a drop appears in the frame. And that´s probably true for some.....still it´s just as much photography as shooting a tree. And i do find that remark offensive as well when i constantly try to experiment....here´s where you wrong my dear Radlaxf, lol.....with new liquids and substances to get a certain splash or whatever. Ever wondered why i take most of my drop-shots at work? It´s because here i have access to different oils and equipments so that i can measure things like viscosity. So it´s certainly not randomly shooting on my behalf. So when someone tells me it´s not even to be considered photography, then i do feel insulted. Sorry but i can´t help that.
But enough about that. I´m still blushing about your kind words, lol. Thank you all. You made my night here at work so much more pleasant. 2.20 am and only 3 more hours to go....yaaaaaay!!!

I call that "the unnoticed wink" because not everyone realizes that ;o) may mean "just kidding" (take it as a joke) if you know what I mean. Andreas has alot of sources for (graphic) smilies so (i'm guessing) he didn't notice your smily. @ Chris. 1. You're right about words having deferent meanings and you gave a good example (I'll add to that by noting that nowadays its not such a good idea to state "someone someone stole all my hens, and now all I have is a bunch of cocks and chicks). That could get some unwanted attention. 2. You aint (are not) wrong by saying chook cuz I just learn a new word and thats AUSSyOME!

I just want to add my two cents here,if I may,and that's that I think Andreas' drop shots are always amazing, inspiring and consistently of the very highest quality.I know he tries hard to bring variation to them, and is always trying to do something more difficult, and more original than the one before it ...and I just want to add my applause. I want to thank him for not only being such a constant inspiration but also for being so very helpful to so many of us,as well.I know I'm not the only one he has helped and encouraged when I say that, and so I'd like to say 'thank you, swedie' for everything you bring to this site...your art, your skill, your encouragement, your enthusiasm...and your silly smilies that always crack me up.
Oh...and huge congrats on getting that fabulous fan shot today...but as you can probably tell from this nauseating ,mushy gushy, comment here..lol...I think the reality is...

Exactly, what I meant is that you have the resources (chemicals and such) that when mixed with oxygen (or other chems) they just burst into flames. So what I was saying is (not) to drop one chemical into another to create a fire in your drop shots (which might make the flash-fire alarm go off). So which chemicals did you use tonight? I remember you talking about your graveyard shifts and the chemicals you use to make the drop. Sweet dreams. Healthy living. p.s. Andreas may we please see your setup (chemicals, oils, Beakers, Erlenmeyer and Florence flasks, test tubes, graduated cylinders, burets, eye dropper, pipets, watch glasses, etc...) oh and please wear a mask while mixing chemicals. I think your drop shots should be demonstrated in science classes (wanna be a science teacher?).

LOL!!! I actually try to stay away from the really explosive stuff. Mostly it´s just water that i add some additives to so that it will become a bit thicker. That´s when the viscosity-meters come in handy. Sometimes i add other stuff as well....as long as i know it´s not dangerous. I work in a lab at a chemical plant....but i have absolutely no chemistry education whatsoever. How did he get that job you wonder? Because there were cutbacks being made in another department where i worked so i got transfered there......doesn´t hurt when your mom is the boss in those kinds of situations, lol. So that´s why i´m a bit cautious when it comes to mixing chemicals....´cause i frankly don´t know what they are, LOL. :tt2:
And drops in swedish would be "droppar".....water is "vatten"....so when combined you get "vatten-droppar".

i can see how people can get bored of drop shots - and i can also see how people can get bored of flowers. Infact i am extremely bored of seeing the mundane flower shot and sunset shot - some still catch my attention but on the whole i am bored of them, it doesnt mean that i comment on the one that i find mundane saying "find something else to shoot, this is boring".
I have taken the odd drop shot but i explored a different approach, if you missed it then go see because i too find conventional approaches to drop shots of just plain water rather boring. I remember Ultimate Male's fan shot which inspired zacko and others back into exploring the drop shot, then i think it was marlene who did the "3d drop" and i think it was Zacko himself who started the image within the drop shots. All of these were interesting variations on the theme and creative. If there wasnt a basis to start with then these great shots wouldnt have been acheived, and to land the blame on Zacko for the "boring" drop shot and saturating the gallery with an interesting take on photography is a bit petty. We are supposed to be creating art here (some people dont seem to understand that) and to do that you need creativity and a starting point... you cant take a portrait shot without a face and a camera, same as you cant take a creative drop shot without the grounding in knowing how to take that shot. I'm not pointing a finger at anyone here - i just remember seeing a similar remark somewhere else on a recent drop shot and am responding to it and the general sentiment which some people might hold.
Just my two pence ;)

Okay, we can all agree that Andreas has raised the bar for 'drop shots' so hight I that I don't even want to try them. ;'] It is great to see people feed off others creativity and use it for inspiration. Like Rich says, we get some unexpected permutations of image themes that way. Who could have predicted that Marlene's 3D drop would inspire so many to try their own versions...leading to images like Ray's floating balloons. Cool stuff. But we all must remember to that is is a public gallery with people of all levels of skill. And that comments can be easily taken the wrong way. Does that mean we should censor what we say? No, but expect misunderstandings to arise -- it is the nature of the beast.

No to Drugs....Yes to Alcohol! LOL!!!
Pssst....i do have unlimited access to 99.98% "booze" though.
P.S. I feel i should add one important thing here. If there is someone that deserves credit for "drop-shots" in general then it´s Richard/Onslow. Even though i think it was Tom/raven427 who posted the first drop-shot i saw here on RR, it was Richard´s amazing photos that fascinated me into trying it for myself. So kudos to Richard!!!!

Andreas your images of drops are amazing and I enjoy viewing them. As I do others, be they beginner or someone who has taken it on to higher levels. I am very flattered that my humble attempts inspired you or anyone to try it.
However I can't be saddled with the blame for all these photographs of drops and splashes I must name and shame the real culprit.
A M Worthington.
Yep that's the fella in 1894 he delivered a lecture: "The Splash of a Drop and Allied Phenomena."
and in 1908 published a book : "A Study of Splashes."

It looks like someone has done this before (of course). Andreas, you may be interested to read up on his method. It is pretty neat that he photographed a different water drop for each frame.Kort Kramer - Kramer Kreations
Well - only saw this thread now and maybe I can add to this small debate... Thanks for Andreas for inspiring me to do the dropshots I recently uploaded and thanks to him for standing up for me so valiantly! I do appreciate it! I must say, after the whole "incident" I was a bit taken aback and I'm still a bit hesitant to upload a drop again (I do have more... ), but luckily I'm not THAT sensitive and will get myself so far as to upload one again soon. And everyone else has been sooo encouraging about it, so I think i'll do it soon! Thanks for all the encouragement and thanks to all the MASTERS of DROPSHOTS who inspire me: ANDREAS, RICHARD, MARLENE and the rest! Have a great one! ---------------- Est8;o) :tt2:
Ooh... I am sooooo not a master at drop shots! I just found a way to present them so they 'appeared' to be more than they were, lol. But thank you, anyway,Esté.

I remember when this drop shot stuff all started. I was just learning to do a drop shadown. Well, Richard gave me a full info thing on his method...very effective and then Andreas and now the others have shown up.
When I see a good drop shot, I have to applaud the one who took it...not knowing if a first image or the 1000th one to get "that" shot.
Anyway, these sure are lots of fun and the splashed on my UV lens protection filter has gotten a few drops on it in the past...just by trying at home what they didn't warn me about..."unless a professional at this, don't try this at home in the kitchen sink with a small pan full of water and food coloring." Tom.
I tried Kort's method where the windmill's feeding pipe extends over the dam wall on the farm. Boy was it fun! Now I just have to retrieve the camera...
My 2c worth: I have tried it several times with the new cam which is obvious a humorous moment for the photographers in the know. I still haven't mastered my camera and that was mistake nr 1, taking this type of photo asks for experience with the camera, a point I think Chris has raised earlier.
To me, uploading a drop shot is a quite normal cycle for any photographer who wants to broaden his scope. This should be encouraged by us all and we should thus refrain from the opinion of it being "boring". I once made a mistake when uploading flowers, I said "I won't bore you with insignificant flowers" in the accompanying comment. I was inundated with messages and I realised I should not have said that. I apologised and I saw the same attitude being displayed here earlier, which is admirable.
Sorry I ramble and i don't even know if I am still sticking to the subject.
So, now my drop shots are still to come, soon... :sneaky:

I think they are by far the best photo's of any on here. I sent him a mail a few weeks ago asking advice on how do do them. He came back and told me, that was good. I have since had a go but none of my results have been a 1/4 as good as his, so they won't be appearing here for quite a while. I feel for him when people say they are boring. It takes so much time and practice to get a shot. We should all applaud him. WELL DONE ZACKO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
