THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: I do not know much about computers or Bryce Please help

I bought Bryce a little over a month ago and I have done some tinkering here and there.  But I was trying to go over the tutorials and one of the said to remove the ground from the set.  I can not figure out how to do that can somebody please help me.  Also I got some free downloads from here and I am trying to figure out how to put them into my Bryce 6.  If you can help me please remember that I do not know much about computers so please keep it simple.

Suggestion.  Can you provide a link or url of the tutorial.  More information is needed to answer your question.   Same goes for the downloaded stuff.

Wow I am not sure if I want to touch this one lol. Alright sorry I will play nice but you sound a bit like me mum who always wants to know how I create my images and then when I tell her, she just stares at me with a glazed look in her eyes.

I can't say this enough read, read, read. Read that manual forward and back. Then play play, play don't try to run when you have not learnt to walk.

So 1st off why do you want to remove the ground? Are you creating a space or air image? Tell me why you think you need to remove the ground then it is easy as clicking on that grid that is the ground plane. It should turn from grey to red then just click the delete key on your keyboard POOF its gone. Still wondering why you want to delete a perfectly good ground plane though LOL.

2nd The content that you downloaded is for Daz studio and needs to be installed there. This opens up and whole new can of worms as well as a sort of plug-in program to Bryce. Daz Studio allows you to move pose and shape figures. But again and I mean no offense here I think you are getting way ahead of yourself. If you do not know computers well and then this is your first 3D application you should fiddle with Bryce for a good long while then jump right into posing.

Again I tease but I mean well. If you have any other questions please ask but noodle with Bryce and read read read is my best advice right now.

Cheers.

How to remove the ground from the set ....

1.  Along the bottom of your work area and to the right of center and a series of icons.  They stand for water, ground, terrain, trees, rocks .... etc etc.

2.  Left click on the ground icon and hold it .... you should see a little pop up menu that says "Select All" and "Plane 1".

3.  Click on Plane 1.  Unless you have added additional ground planes, that should be the only plane in the scene.

4.  Hit your delete key.  Your ground plane should disappear.

Most freebies that you get will be in *.obj format (or some other modelling format).  To bring those into your Bryce scene ....

1.  Go to File/ Import Object ....

2.  Browse for the file that you want to bring into your scene.

3.  It should import.

4.  It MAY be made up of more than one mesh, and if so, it will usually import as a Group.

5.  To find out if this is the case, go back down to that set of icons at the bottom of the work area.

6.  Click on that little inverted triangle next to the little tri-colored square.

7.  Hold that and it will take you to the Groups and Meshes sub-menus.  You can select grouped objects and individual mesh sections using this menu ....

8.  OR .... just click on an item on your work area and hold down your control key at the same time.  That should bring up a submenu of the individual items under your cursor at the time you clicked.

I hope this helps.

Relax, take a deep breath. You've come to the right place. I bought a close-out copy of Bryce2 at a software reseller several years back. It was only $12.95! I was so stoked because I had read about it and seen what it could do in the hands of a capable artist, so I had to have it! Only one problem...I didn't have a computer to put it on. So I bought one, and the rest is history, lol. So, you see I can relate to your situation. :)  It was Bryce that led me to own a computer, not the other way around. Now I get along pretty darn well in the world of computers, and I use them for lots more than just "Brycing". Don't expect to render Rome in one day. It may take awhile to get some mastery of Bryce, but hanging around the Bryce Forum will definitely shorten the learning curve.

If you've got BRYCE 5.0 - when you first open it - the normal drop down menu bars (Windows / Mac menu bars) are invisible - that's where I use my "delete" option - so I'm sorta guessing that your in the habit of looking for the delete option in the "FILE" drop down menu.

just run your mouse cursor over the top of your computer screen when your in BRYCE and the normally invisible option menus will magically appear from the typical black background.

If I'm way off the mark then don't worry because it probably just means that I'm off my meds - which could explain why I have an orange crayon crammed tightly into my left nostril - and why I seem to be nude except for mismatching shoes - and why Jalapeno peppers are scotch taped to my nipples.

Maybe it was the Ridilin that I should've taken - instead of just Flintsone's Chewable Vitamins.

It's that damn psychotheorapist always confusing me with big words like "Delusional Euphoric Psychosis", and "Extensive Property Damage". How can I follow him when he won't even speak english!?

BLAH BLAH BLAH YADDA YADDA YADDA BLAH.

Well - enough about me, what was it that you wanted to know?

TC, plane and simple is the way i'll explain it. when you open bryce you have your work space, if you look at the bottom of the work space you will see a grid looking section, click on it and then hit the delete key on your keyboard.

Image shows you the ground in bryce.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

First I would like to apologize  for the vague  question, I have the tend  to get off track and ramble if I do not try to keep my questions short and simple would like to say thank you for everyone that gave advice and it did help me.  Also I will like to say to Vile that I will take up your advise and I will retry to read the manual again.  I did try once but it is like trying to read stereo instructions.

Second on the downloads the ones I am speaking of are the ones that I downloaded from the freebies from this site.  The ones I downloaded from DAZ I have already installed into BRYCE.  The ones from here seem to me to look and feel different then the ones I download from DAZ so and I could be wrong but it seem to me that putting them into BRYCE would be different.  Again thank you for your help.

All of them should be able to be imported in the manner I described above.  You just have to unzip them (if they are zip files), or run them (if they are exe files).  Keep an eye on where you unpacked them or installed them

Then, go to Files, Import Object, and browse to the appropriate directory. Select the item and bring it into your Bryce scene.  If it had a texture that came with it, go into the Materials area and map the texture on using "Parametric."

When I first got Bryce about 1½ years ago, I started reading the manual... got a migraine... than i went here, and it was a great help just to be able to ask specific questions to real people who would answer me!!

A short while later, I was introduced to RenderGods chat - went there - and has been there ever since. I'd say, 75% of what I can do in Bryce, D|S, whatever app, I learned from there. (From people you will find here too).

The great thing about learning from an IRC chat is that it's faster than a forum if you're the impatient type like me :)

So feel free to come see us at RenderGods.com! :)
