As  a PC member you get a whole lot of free stuff when you join, and you can't beat the prices of $1.99 for things.  Plus they give you a $5 monthly voucher that you can use for "non PC" items.

If you can afford to join, then I would highly recommend it.  I forgot the dollar value of all that you get when you join, but it's several hundred dollars  worth of items. An old thread from last year put the value at over $700.00.   So it's definitely worth it.

You could just get the month long membership to try it, it is approximately $30 and if you dont like it, then just dont renew the membership.

vilian ( ) posted Sun, 26 November 2006 at 4:25 AM · edited Sun, 26 November 2006 at 4:27 AM

Ditto on what Xantor said. You can always grab all the $1.99 items you're interested in and just don't renew for another month. Or you can get annual membership after that "trial" month ;)
Nickedshield has some Mousie clothing freebies which are not not listed here at Rendo, but you can get to the goodies through threads at DAZ freepository :)
And welcome to the world of House Mousie - the more the merrier :)
LONG LIVE HOUSE MOUSIE ! :D

I bought the house mouse about a week ago partly because of the free clothes being made at daz and partly because it was only $1.99.

That might sound a bit mercenary, I actually was wanting to buy the mouse anyway but at that price I couldn`t refuse.

dphoadley ( ) posted Sun, 26 November 2006 at 5:13 AM

If you want to save the $16.95, there is a FREE mouse by JTROUT here in freestuff.  He can't open or close his mouth, by his eyes open and close, and his limbs and tail are fully arrticulalted.

Depends on if someone wants to use realistic mouse - then the one by JTrout is perfect. But if someone wants a semi-realistic mouse that looks good in human poses, standing on hind legs - then House Mousie is much better choice. Of course, not free. But there are always things you just can't find anywhere for free.

I think the House Mouse came as one of the freebies with the PC membership.  Either that or it was $1.99.  I know I got it, and I'm pretty sure I didn't pay much, if anything, for it.

AND I LOVE THE HOUSE MOUSE!!!

Also, I plan to make a lot of clothing, second skins and regular outfits, for my little pal.  When I do, I'm posting them as freebies.

lol..
last night, I was just thinking of making use of the House Mouse in Poser (animating). Imagining the house mouse wearing a swat, WW2 outfits. Or even just a WW2 helmet. I purchased the house mouse and the product I paid for is doing nothing. I sure like to make use of house mouse.

I'm new to DAZ Studio, but I've been working in Bryce for years and years, so making and mapping textures for models is pretty old hat to me.

A "second skin" outfit is really just a painted on outfit.  It's not a posable prop, so it's not as 3D as regular modeled clothing, but then again, it goes on really easily (in Bryce anyway .... some of the second skin outfits you can get -- like Vilian's great Nighty Mice jammies don't map properly in DAZ Studio).

I plan to start making modeled clothing for the Mousie, love him soooo much, but for now, I'm just doing skins.  My most recent image, "In the Hall of the Pirate King" has two examples of HM Second Skin outfits, one for each of the pirate mice.

Essentially, all I do is either paint on a UV template, or take some of the clothing meant for the human characters, and hack them up to fit the House Mouse.  The pirate outfit on my Mousie Captain was taken from the Privateer clothing for Michael 3.  I just took it appart in PSP, and cut and pasted it where I wanted it to go using one of the HM fur skins as a template.  (I put the fur on the bottom layer and then worked with the clothing on upper layers.)

I usually switch back and forth from DAZ to PSP to Bryce so that I can see how the clothing is supposed to look on the human character, and how it will looked mapped to the Mousie.

If Bryce is still on special for $6.00, I highly recommend you purchase it.  If you think DAZ is addictive, just wait until you get a chance to play with Bryce.

My Second Skins are also just paintings made on a texture template in PSP, but are a bit more similar to what you can get from DAZ store). Those are outfits which can be used on any fur texture you'd like to, because they are just textures replacing fur texture in some of the places. As already mentioned, D|S doesn't read subdividing MAT poses correctly - some of my poses leave white areas on Mousie' body, hence it's best to use them in any version of Poser instead of D|S. I've submitted this weirdness to DAZ D|S bug tracker a year ago (it makes one of their store products unuseable in their own app after all), no improvement so far. With Mousie selling quite well within last month or so (thanks to Xaa's and Nickedshield's freebies over at DAZ freepository), they may take a peek at the problem though. At least I wish they did.

And once again: LONG LIVE HOUSE MOUSE !

Yeah, that's why I work with them in Bryce.  I can take Vilian's jammies for HM and apply it to just those sections of the HM that I need to be jammified.

D|S I really only use for posing, not for texturing or rendering.  I'm finding that some things that look like they are correctly mapped in D|S (such at the Study chair ... looks fine in D|S), when exported with all the maps applied, come out rather whako when you re import them into another app.  So, I end up re texturing in Bryce anyway.

vilian ( ) posted Mon, 27 November 2006 at 12:48 PM

"Jammified" ! LOL, gotta save that word somewhere ;)
Hadn't run into any problems with D|S-to-Bryce import yet, but on the other hand it's not something I've done for many times (so far I'm trying to get decent landscapes in B6 ;) ).

It's only been happening to me on a regular basis with the one chair prop from "The Study."  I have to correct it by selecting those portions of the chair that are wood and procedurally texturing them in Bryce.

What .... jammified isn't a regular word??

Could be worse, could be raining.
