Subject: Site Error on the Increase

Anniebel ( ) posted Wed, 06 December 2006 at 2:18 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 10:35 AM

Constantly either getting "Page cannot be displayed" or "ERROR: No global variables detected. Exiting.", which makes browsing the site & the forums the pits.

These errors seem on the increase rather than decrease - doesn't make the site very funtional.

Using IE6 & XP with all the updates.

I'm using XP home and IE7.

"ERROR: No global variables detected. Exiting."

I'm getting this all over suddenly also.

The only time I've gotten  "Page cannot be displayed" is on un updated links, often in free stuff, so that may be the source of that....as to "ERROR: No global variables detected. Exiting.", I haven't had that at all since the change over and the only difference is I use W2K and an over top of IE6 browser called 'crazybrowser'. Y'all may want to try FireFox as a lot of folks[tho not me] use that now a daze with happy results. If you want a free one that I can vouch for go to....http://www.crazybrowser.com/...It's also, as in FireFox, a tabbed browser and worth a try anyway.....

I'll alert the programmers, thanks

**Further to ERROR No global....etc, one of the programmers submitted this reply so help is on the way

In simple terms - this error usually occurs when traffic gets excessive, very likely due to a large volume of web crawlers hitting the site when there are a large number of members on the site causing the database to become overloaded with requests.

We will be adding some additional hardware in early January that should resolve this problem.

Just to clarify...

I have experienced both problems, mostly when following Renderosity site links, by this I mean the ones on the right or at the top of the page. Last night it was trying to go from one forum to another using the forum links at the top.

Also I have heard site traffic blamed for errors previously & took note last night, there were only about 930 people online at the time.

The cute series of smilies at the bottem of your post is great especially if you imagion each expression change being accompanied by a new click with the mouse only to get the same error messages. ^^

Oh, ya, and I get them all the time but it usually clears up after a bit.

vikinglady ( ) posted Thu, 07 December 2006 at 1:38 PM

LOL, thanks CrimsonDesire.

This was the first time I got that Error message.
"Knock on Wood."  I hope it will be the last.
