I'm not having any luck with this project.

I'm working on F4 rather than M3, but same situation; basically.

It might be easier to postwork with photoshop brushes, if there were any.

Quote - I had an anus some time ago... and before you start joking, I'm gay so whatever you say is probably true :D  It was basically a piece of modelled skin analogous to the female genital area you could get for V1 and Steph1, it was supposed to fit in the area between the buttocks. I can't remember who made it, might have been Fab (ffabris) but I had no luck fitting it at the time, maybe now I'm a more experienced Poser user I could fathom out how to work it.

I'll see if I can find it and do something with it - actually I think regrouping and morphing the area is probably going to meet with more success. Sounds like more fun as well - c'mere, David! On the table! :D

[departs amidst the snap of latex gloves...]

For reasons of my own would like to also ask for this. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread they found a similar prop over in the earlier days of the old Renderotica. I went back there to get it but could not find it up any more. Someone at DAZ created a mare vaginal prop for the MilHorses and Centaurs and made that available but I am not sure if it also included a rectum. There was no texture that I can recall but it might work if it could be remapped or the mesh broken apart to separate the two openings.
If someone has the old Renderotica prop and can find the original creator in the readme file for it we could contact the original artist to get that reposted and someone good at creating morph targets could try and work plain old .obj based morphs for it. It would be a simpler solution for this and for rendering purposes with the right texturing/mapping the easiest to deal with.

Uh, but are we any closer to getting a functional 3D aperture / orifice / whatever ?

Seems in any situation the most "Creative" minds as you put it, are usually the ones offering the least viable solutions in most situations.

SEX is uncomfortable to many in our culture. Case in point:
Take 5 guys otherwise considering themselves heterosexual and sit them down and show them two movies. One with hetero sex and one with gay sex and the hetero sex will garner the most jokes and humorous responses whereas the gay film will create an uncomfortable ambiance of almost dead silence. Ever wonder why?

To my understanding anything to do with human sexuality including the plethora of porno (erotic) films seem easier to digest if surrounded or accompanied with stupid vapid or childish humor. The Poser threads are also rife with this it seems.
I guess this stupid humor is required to help relieve the embarrassment of dealing with uncomfortable subject matter....and S.E.X. to many in our retentive culture (which considers itself collectively as modern and progressive) , curiously enough, fits quite comfortably (or is that uncomfortably)  into that dark realm of UNCOMFORTABLE SUBJECT MATTE.

To me if you don't have anything intelligent to contribute to the thread it is better to say nothing than to offer some vapid humor and thus prolong the thread. Someone asked a viable question here and very few of the responses had anything whatsoever to do with a decent reply (as is always the case in these forums). Comes down to a serious waste of time.

Are we all so desperately in need of comic relief we do it at the expense of others time, band widths or needs?

What a waste of time. If the original poster of this thread ever gets a legitimate response to his request please PM me I would be interested in reading how it got resolved. Otherwise I will be canceling my subscription to this  vapid expose' of childish poopie peepie humor.

That's true to a degree. However, there are some people who enjoy seeing the lighter side of life regardless of the subject. This (digital art) is hardly a life-or-death subject that demands absolute seriousness at all times, and over the years I've seen many people have much fun exploring the lighter side of it.

The "bell curve" suggests that although some would find this a waste of bandwidth, others would find it a pleasurable use of bandwidth.

This thread was started Dec. 8, 2006. It's been a long wait for the original poster. I genuinely hope he found what he was looking for. He's apparently still around (last post 4/13/10). You might try PMing him directly.

There are various genital packages for V4 that include a morphable anus - e.g. GSpot and V4WWG IIRC. If you need a male figure with that functionality, maybe you could make do with one of those and the V4 male morph and Mike's native genital  or the one from Satanica.

Having said that, the anuses aren't that great as far as 'receptivity' goes if that is the aim (and why have it morphable if not). You might be able to fit a thumb in at full dilation but that's about it. I'm just guessing though, I haven't tried it. I think Have's Eroko figure is the only one I've seen whose anal and vaginal morphs would accommodate a significant amount of intromission (or expulsion), but she was built from the ground up. Anyone wanting to create a realistic depiction of childbirth* with Poser is out of luck without a completely custom model.

  • Not to mention various unspeakable acts which I am told can be found on teh internets.

A new hip sounds technically difficult. Maybe some sort of "conforming" item? With same joint settings as the main figure?  I'm not a modeller, no experience with all this. But I wouldn't mind to get rich ;).

They would need more than a rectum for that. The prostate gland is near the rectum, but it actually encircles the urethra. Technicalities aside, medical illustration might still be a viable use. I suspect they'd want all the innards available though, and not just the anus and rectum.

This is a medical illustration of what's where. I don't think it's against the TOS since it's not erotic at all. However, I'm just going to link to it instead of embedding it. Mods, I'll be glad to remove the link if I'm in error about it fitting within the TOS.

"I had an anus some time ago... and before you start joking, I'm gay so whatever you say is probably true :D "

Something I don't get is this connection in American Culture between anal sex and gay men. There are far fewer gay men who have anal sex then there are straight men who do just because the are fewer gay men then straight men in general. I suppose the case might be made that proportionally fewer straight men are in the receptive role during anal sex then gay men are but I wouldn't stake my life on that since some ladies like to have their way with dudes and some dudes like it that way. My understanding is that anal sex is engaged in essentially by the same proportion of m/f, m/m, and f/f couples. There are gay men who never have anal sex and straight men and lesbians who could not imagine going without.

I would think the best way to deal with anuses in Poser is with post-work... maybe someone could post a tutorial. The issue would be similar to post-working clothes in that its mainly about showing folds/creases/bulges using highlight and shadow overlays to create the illusion of volume and texture.

As for geometry, it may have been mentioned already but I think it was Casette who said he took a morphing torus and UVmapped it to the figures head or torso to capture texture and used that with post-work blending. I imagine you could add some texture with a displacement map and fade it to the hip with a transmap. A parented prop like this is might actually be easier to pose with then a integral hip.

"Something I don't get is this connection in American Culture between anal sex and gay men."

While I don't know of any academic studies on the subject, I would imagine it would be because of location. The anus is the closest thing to a vagina on a male body so it would appear to be the logical substitute.

However, that isn't Poser - related so I don't think I'm going to stray further in that direction. Even when looking at it 'academically' it's a risky subject. People get easily offended. I was here when they shut down the Off-topic forum. I don't want to see them shut down the Poser forum.

You know there are some morphing torus props that are better than the standard Poser primative, right? Some are in commercial sets but there is a free one here: http://www.morphography.uk.vu/dlmagic.html Scroll down to Super Torus.

Search for UVMapper Classic for a free simple software to remap.

Try displacement map for texture detail (is wrinkle the word?) or if you have later version of Poser maybe the Morph Tool can help there.

Best of luck.

Sorry for thread hijack.

"YOU ALL break down a discussion about everything else in the world."

That does to happen on occasion as in real life.

The problem with a prop is that I don't think you're ever going to get anything realistic that has to interact with the existing hip geometry.

Daz' former partners in crime at Zygote aka 3DScience.com will be happy to sell or make you any detailed anatomical model you desire - at a price that the Gambino Family would consider extortionate.

Regarding post work, someone at renderotica had a package, "flanges" something that addressed the exact issue though I don't recall if it covered the posterior as well as the anterior orifice. I'll leave it at that so as not to be further responsible.

I am loath to pop this thread back to the top but it got me thinking of post-working a sphincter for an alien artifact... say a memory device or analysis device.

Here was my first shot at it...

In UVmaper I made a ball prop and screen captured it.

In Photoshop I copied the layer and set it to luminosity mode so the dodge and burn tools wouldn't shift the colors.  On this duplicate layer I drew an "asterisk" shape "*" with the burn tool and filled in the intersections with the dodge tool. Then I smoothed things a bit with the smudge tool trying to get a rounded look at the intersections.

I made a copy of this layer and used the Liquid Tool to dilate the sphincter.

I painted a probe or energy wand typ thing on a new layer over that and went back to the layer with the dilated sphincter and burned with a large soft brush to kind of push the sphincter in then smudged that around to kind of meet the wand shape. Then I merged those two layers and used the blur tool where the wand enters the sphincter port.

This is three minutes works so it is rough but it is a proof of concept I guess. Photo references of some actual sphincters and wand shapes would probably help a lot but this does show how burn and dodge on a luminosity layer can sculpt the surface of the volume to create the appearance of an orifice. I thought the concept might be sound based on experience painting clothes this way back at the turn of the century. With clothes you can paint a separate color or hue layer of the burn/dodge/smudge layer to distinguish the clothes from the figure.

A prop anus might be a good starting point for burn/dodge/smudge like this but probably a simple torus would do since in the end any solution would probably require post work.

Nudity tag is in case some one interprets my alien artifact and data probe as a organic life form of some sort in a unclothed state.

The figures in the picture are subdivided v4 (at the right place just for this thread ;), on the right with the v4male FBM applied.

Are there commercial high-res hips yet? Worth providing one ;) ?

Well... its been mentioned before about the mechanical aspects of this. Any large object pushing into the sphincter is also going to deform areas on the adjacent left & right buttocks as well. So, just sub-dividing a portion of the hip area is not a complete solution. But its a start.

TrekkieGrrl's reference photos would be useful to map out where and how far those deforms take place, where extra sub-divisions on the left & right buttocks would be needed.

If, we're gonna discuss this seriously (technical aspects, etc.), and maybe make an effort to actually make one, I think we need to take the project off-site. Form a working group, create a closed forum where details can be hammered out... err... worked on, and progress can be shown.
