Subject: Help! V4 saving problem!

FantastArt ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 3:32 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 4:18 AM

Help please! I can't save any single scene with V4. Poser is not opening the scene anymore! I tried the whole day and saved different simple scenes, but when I open them again my document window stays empty. Everything looks normal. I also opened the pz3's in my edit pad, but it looks normal, too. I have this issue only with every scene including V4. Of course I need to save my work. Any idea what I can do ??? I also tried to open the scene in Carrara, but it's the same there, too.

Which Poser version? If it's P6, have you checked that Use External Morphtargets is set to off? (Just guessing but that could be an issue)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

.... good guess!  What made you jump that way, why would that be an issue? I'd like to understand why.

Daz characters are'bt really Poser figures.  Daz(Zygote) used to make the figures that come with poser, but do'nt anymore.  SInce they stopped, the technology that strips the morph data out of a figure, and puts it aside into the .PMD file, has been added, but morph technology is very sensitive, and just as two morphs of different figures wo'nt transfer it would follow to expect that stripping/rehashing would also have required some kind of colaboration between Poser and Daz' developers.

I was guessing because the external morphtargets has played tricks on me on previous occasions. :D I'm glad it helped.

I'm a bit put out though if you actually can't use PMD's on V4, they're a great and easy way of sharing homemade morphs. I will have to check that when I get home.

Thanks.  You know, I would not be surprised if DAZ intentionally secured that for similar reasons they had for hiding the scaling sliders (apparently scaling individual bodyparts can cause problems with the new morphforms).

I have had the same prob with P6, files not reopening. I have now reset my Misc. Preferences to turn off External Morph Targets, tho have not tested this yet. So that's what the PMD files are... a "save" of morph targets? I've been wondering. But why would that cause a file not to re-open? What is the conflict?

I have no problem using binary morphs with Victoria 4 in Poser 6. Do you have SR3 installed?

You can try to load V4 in a scene and then save it as a new figure to the library. Then, Poser 6 creates one PMD file for V4, that is used always when you load this new figure, and the morphs are no longer saved in a new PMD for each scene.

You can load V4 into P6, save the scene with External Binary Morphs, right enough, but you can't reload that scene back into Poser6; it simply will not open that scene.

I tried the turn off external morph thing. After adding some new hair (radiant jaguar) and saving the file size went from 7.5 mb to 61.5!! So that is not the best solution. After turning the morph thing back to On, and resaving, the pz3 file went back down to 7.5, so I don't think the hair made a difference. What gives?

Quote - What gives?

The RJH has a lot of morphs, which with PMDs off, get saved to the PZ3 instead of a seperate file.

A have a similar problem, I made a scene with V4 and Poser crashes on open.
I don't know how to recover the file.
I have save it with external morphs but now I can't change it, right ?

Correct, you'll need to redo the scene from scratch.
You may be able to recover the settings by either just opening in a text editor or perhaps one of Cage's recent scripts.
