Subject: A Very Unexpected belated Xmas Present - P7

**............. courtesy of my hubby who kept it v v v quiet!!!!  It arrived yesterday afternoon.  I didn't know anything about it.  Got the usual bottle of Baileys and chocs on the day itself, nice.

Now, I've been having a play around - just with the Sydney character - haven't installed anything else yet.  Here's a test render:

I played with light settings etc.  Just got a question - when I install DAZ figures will I have to install them as normal in P7 or can I run them from external Runtimes?

You may install them in whatever runtime you wish (native or external), although it might be wise to copy all injection folders to the P7 runtime anyway.

**Thanks Little Dragon

why I ask is that I've now got an external 160GB HD which has plenty of space.  If possible I'd like to keep my runtimes on this.

Sheila, I run all of my purchased content from external runtimes and don't have any problems.  I don't think you need to install anything to the P7 runtimes.  All of my external runtimes are out on a 250 Gb USB drive and I don't have any troubles with any of them (and I've got a lot of them right now).

I think I have more than 40 external runtimes. Each figure has their own, actually, each figure has one for character addons and one for clothing. Plus I have one for each theme (angels/faeries, plants, backgrounds/environments, mermaids, christmas, valentines, lighting, props, hair etc). It makes life so much easier knowing where exactly things are stored. Yes I have to switch runtimes a lot, but it's worth not having to play seek and find when looking for things. And it makes deleting things so much easier because I don't have to wade through non related stuff looking for the files.

This is exactly what the Collections feature in P7 is good for.  If you use certain characters, props, etc., a lot you can set them up in collections and not have to switch runtimes to bring them into a scene, you can add them from the collections menu.

**thanks, that's what I was thinking!  At the moment I've only got P7 installed - and I've whittled down the runtime to the bare bones of its content which I know I may use at one time or another.

I too have individual runtimes/categories - I don't mind switching or removing/installing runtimes - at least it doesn't bloat up the P7 system!
