Subject: Poser 6 PZ3 files VS Poser 7

OK just got poser 7 up and running today. Richard and I have already found a problem. The PZ3 files included in our sets will not render in Poser 7, you jsut get a blank picture the same as the background colour.
This is being caused by Raytracing and a Poser 6 to 7 translation problem due to differences in FireFly 6 to FireFly 7. The quick fix is to open the render settings and click on the "restore default' setting button. This will set the Render engine for Poser 7 and turn off Ray Trace. The file will now render but the shadows will be gone.
The only real fix I have found so far is to reconstruct the file from scratch in Poser 7 and then it works fine with all the goodies turned on again. I am in the process now of making P7 compatible files for The General Store and The Hotel. Our 2 Newest sets.
I hope to have these done by Monday. I have also sent a copy of the files to e-Frontier tech support in the hope they can come up with a better solution or a translation patch.

Question, since I ran into this one just once when I first got my P7.  Do you have external runtimes that the P6 pz3 is referencing?  If so, you need to load them into P7 just once, reload the scene and then you should be able to raytrace without any problems.

Nope everything is installed in the poser 7 run time. I never use external runtimes as I have had tooo many problems with tme. I don't even use the "downloads' runtime. Thanks for the suggestion though. I have run ito a new problem too. As I rebuild the scene it stops working. With several items in the scene it works but as the quantity of props increases it stops working. So it could be a complexity problem. Our WWS scenes are very complex with loads of props in them. This may just cause the RayTracing engine to choak out. The same files render in Poser 6 and Poser 5 with out a single problem. So at this point I am waiting to hear back from e-Frontier for some helpful hints.

I can appreciate your frustration.  I've seen your WWS scenes and, as you say, they are complex.  It will be interesting to see what e-F has to say since some people are having this problem and others, myself included, aren't.

Dontcha love buggy software?  NOT!  :b_crying:

mapps, are you using a download version or a box version of P7?

If you're using download version, there's a possibility that your P7 file is actually not complete.
Windows default download feature cannot distinguish server interruption, so whenever there's a glitch on the server's end, Windows download deems it as "download completed" while actually it's not.

There are quite a few people got the incomplete download problem and complained about it at CP forum.    A free download manager called GetRight was suggested by the CP staff as the solution, then it worked out eventually.

Downloaded Vers. It did take me several trys to get it to download but when the last try finished the dowloaded file size did matche the lested size for the download. And the installer did run just fine. So it shouuld be complete. I do think it is a FireFly problem If i render a couple of character or a small scene it is just fine but if it gets bigger or more complex it dumps out or renders blank. :-)

Well Victoria_Lee ya gotta remember never trust X.0 software. 6.0 was realy buggy but the current 6 version works pretty good. It seems to be the same with all software the X.0 version always has problems. I generaly wait till the first patch is ready before buying but with poser I generaly get the .0 as I want to start playing with the new stuff :-)

Oh the solution is set renering to "as a seperate process" the ther prefs. If your firewall flags this as a internet connection attempt allow it as it is actually a "system sprocket" usage and the firewall can't tell the difference.
