As reported in New Scientist, you can build your own prototyper / fabricator, ready to turn your computer models into the real thing.  All you need is about $2500 and a few techie skills :)

Come visit us at RenderGods.

Ignore the shooty dog thing.

for those on lower budgets, there are some guys on the web who will fabricate models using 3D printers for a nominal fee, perhaps $50 - $100 u.s. they may be able to create maquettes (or whatever ya call' em) of poser models, but I don't know fer sure.

Hey ,What happen to artistic talent? for  $2500 I would do it with a pocket knife and some sandpaper. Or if you want larger size you can get out the chainsaw and then use a pocket knife. ( throws his hands up and walks away mumbling, Kids today amaze me)

Here is another one that has a target price of $400. Interesting to note that one of the goals of the project is having the fabber make copies of itself. The group is developing a "bootstrap fabber" (read simple and slow) that can be made of wood and other easily obtained parts. That one is used to make the parts for the more advanced one. After the parts for the advanced fabber are produced and the device built, you're obligated by the license agreement to produce the parts for two more fabbers to give to other people. There are some videos on the site showing a prototype in operation.
