I haven't seen any posts about this.... but I can't be the only one this happens to.

Most of the time I have been using Poser 7 it won't close completely.  I use the x to close it and the main parts of Poser are blank but the frame, for the lack of a better discription, still remains open.

Any ideas on how to close it instead of using the Windows Task Manager? (XP Home) I am worried about corrupting Poser one of these times.

i've only ever had this problem when poser has crashed, this is definately not how poser should close down, so you may need to re-instal it, i also get this sometimes if i am rendering a big scene in Vue and try to minimize it so that i can come and talk gibberish over at 'rosity while it is rendering. so maybe you have memory issues also as it happens to me when the computer is almost maxed out trying to render a three billion poly' scene and i'm wanting to use explorer aswell!!

If you put up your 'puter specs(ram and such) maybe someone can help you a bit better than me.

you've got the same ram,graphics card, HD and external HD as me, but my GHz is 3.2( or something) with hyper-threading(+dual-core), so i wonder if that is something to do with it (i don't know though) but that bit being about half of my setup must do something significant.

Was wondering about the AMD Athlon bit, is that the make of computer? or is it a processor name like "pentium" it just looks familiar to me, but i thought it was the rival graphics card to the GeForce cards, like you would either have a Athlon card or a Geforce card.

Nope thats the processor.  Think of this as your computer brain.  This is the largest chip in the computer and is usually covered by a big fan.  

Pentuims are made by Intel. Intel CPU's won't fit on onto a AMD board and vice versa.

Geforce is for graphics. This can be found as a set of chips either on the computers motherboard (the big green bit) or better still on a seperate graphics card.  

As for the poser issue - I've have had this happen before in eariler versions. Theres a 'preferences' file which can get corrupted.  

Back up the runtime, Shut down the machine restart and remove poser using control panel.
Mannually remove anything left behind. Now reinstall Poser. Copy over the runtime into the new install saying NO if it asks you to overwrite anything.

Keep in mind that closing any application, requires the application to free all resources it is holding. In Poser this may take a while (as it holds a lot of memory resources).
In decent Operating Systems the OS takes care of this but in Windows (all versions) the application must do it. If an application crashes (or is hard killed) the resources may not be returned to OS. The only way to resolve this is a reboot. Once in a while the application will be in a loop trying to free resources, a hard kill will terminate the application. After a hard kill you should reboot your computer as soon as possible.
In Poser, when you close the application wait several minutes before taking any action, as long as your hard disk isn't writing you can stop Poser with a hard kill, close all other applications and reboot or simply reboot your computer immediately if no other applications are active.
