Subject: Strain Based Hair

Lord_Garland ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 9:09 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 1:28 PM

I have been spending quite a lot of time trying to learn how to make good stain based hair. I have learned what the dials in the hair room do. I have learned that setting hair to a lower vert and Density speeds up the learning process.

Still I am greatly lacking in knowing how to make stain based hair look good up close or at a distance.

Does anyone know where I can read up on stain based hair? I have read some old tutorials but I haven't come up with anything useful yet.

Not quite sure what to say or what I should be doing.

Any help would be welcome

Thank you all for your time. :)

Lots of information on hair, including tutorials and links to free hair and hair related items like skull caps etc in this thread:

strand-based hair is not a good idea for versions of poser prior to P7 IMVHO, if realism is desired. I don't have P7, so perhaps it can handle the load better. but if an human head contains 100,000 strands, this gives some idea of the magnitude of the problem. if one only had 5,000 strands, this would technically be called "alopecia" on an actual human. it could be realistic, if alopecia is the condition one is trying to depict, but even 5,000 strands with only 20 polygons each is an unreasonable load on earlier versions of poser IMVHO.

I am useing poser 7. But it is much the same from Poser 6. The Wigs that come with poser show that it can be done. I have made a few wigs that look good to me.

Still Tutoirals would really come in handy.

i agree with the issue of hair count. For close ups, I have to double and tripple the strand count. You also can't have the strands too wide; won't look fine enough.

I think the title is great for at least a couple of the poser rooms:
strain based hair and strain based clothes
