Subject: Poser 7 won't start

Sparky8 ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 8:14 PM · edited Sat, 17 August 2024 at 12:24 AM

I have cleaned it out and reloaded three times, and P7 will load up to the splash screen, stop: ask me for "Null.obj". when I say "continue" (because it can't be found with the search engine) it blinks off and I am back to my desktop..and ideas as to what is causing this? I had it up and running for about a week, then this phenomona appeared, and I haven't been able to get it fired up since. P6 is still working fine. "Null.obj" does not appear in either the P6 or P7 obj files...

Just wondering if you  could open Poser 6  then load the ball prop and then export it as an object into a temp file. You could then rename it to Null.obj and then when you open Poser 7 and it asks for the object you can locate it under that temp file. Now you can delete everything in the scene and then have this new scene set as your prefered state.

The Null.obj sounds like there's a character file that doesn't properly name its object file, or an obj file that can't be found where it's supposed to be.

Could there be a reference to an external runtime that isn't
actually present, or which has moved?  P7 seems to be more
fussy (or buggy)  about the runtime list.

As an experiment, you might look at the libraryPrefs.xml file,
which will be in your Documents and Settings folder under Poser 7.

Here's what mine looks like; the fourth line shows that the P6 runtime
(index 2) is the one that I actually used.

You could try changing the circled number in the fourth line to the index of the
"home" runtime ...  which is probably zero but you should check anyway....
