Subject: Smart Prop Question

Anniebel ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2007 at 9:29 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 5:03 PM

I thought I read that if a prop is parented to a figure, & then you save it to the prop library, that Poser asks if you want to save as a smart prop or not, & remembers the parenting.

However, I must have missed something, because this does not work for me, I have tried various props parented to various figures in Posers 5, 6 & 7, but I never get asked if I want to save as smart prop & the resulting prop is not parented when it is loaded again.

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks.

Well yes it does do that, saves as a smart prop I mean so I'm not sure what you're doing wrong!!
Dumb question maybe, but are you clicking the + sign in your props folder when trying to save it??

Could you test the following sequence:

  • Load a figure, e.g. Posette, from the figure library.
  • Load a primitive, e.g. a box, from the prop library
  • Make sure the box is the selected actor
  • Choose Object->Change Parent from the menu
  • Select a body part, e.g. the right forearm, in the hierarchy window that pops up.
  • Save the box prop to the props library.

Now Poser SHOULD ask if it should be saved as a smart prop.

Note: you cannot save a "chain" of smart props. If you select more than one prop to be saved (using the Select Subset option), the prop collection will NOT be saved as smart props. You can edit the .pp2 file to make them smart props by hand, but Poser will not do it for you.

Ok did this step by step - when saving the box to library clicked subset box & chose box - but still did not ask.

fixer - it saves, it is just not smart propped

Hmm!, just tried it again and worked ok. I know you don't want to hear that [LOL], I'm stumped as to why it doesn't work for you but then nothing surprises me about software!!

[sheepish grin] Ok I have worked out what was wrong LOL

Pulled out the trusty "Practical Poser 6" & reread the section on smart props & I was doing something wrong - when something is parented you do not click the subset button - when I didn't do this it worked.

I guess I should of rechecked the book before LOL & it would have saved me some headaches, I have been struggling with this for weeks.

Yea, like you're the first one to do something not right in Poser

Glad you got it sorted!!!
