Subject: How to keep the origin of an object?

Hy there!

I have encountered a problem when creating a character. When I rotate it , it revolves around an invisible sphere instead rotating around it's centre.Someone told me that I can fix that with the joint editor. And that it's true for objects with their center at the center of the world.
In this case , I have a bottle wich is ok with joint editor and it's stopper at the top of it.The stopper canot stay at the center of the world and it's displaced with the bottle's height. And the joint editor fix doesn't work.It somehow fixes the problem by reducing the size of the invisible sphere , but it still revolves around a sphere. As it is right now , it's good because it revolves at the same pace with the bottle.
For example , if I rotate the bottle at 35 and then the stopper at 35 on the same axis , the stopper will be right on top of the bottle (wich is a good thing). But I don't want it like this , since the stopper will be parented to the bottle anyway , so it will rotate with it.
What I want is that the stopper will revolve around it's center , wich I want it to be located on top of the bottle and not on the bottom of the bottle.
As it is right now , the stopper revolves (with the joints zeroed) around a smaller invisible sphere that has the radius equal with the height of the bottle.
I have checked the center of the .obj when imported and it is at it's center , exactly as I want it.But when I convert the .obj in a character by saving it in the library , the center lowers down to match the center of the bottle , wich is also the center of the world. And it happens what I have described.
How can I make that the stopper character will keep the center of the stopper .obj (prop)?
Thank you in advance!

Best regards!

Can't try it yet, but I think if  a prop is parented the center of this prop is set in relation to the center of the parent. There is nothing you can do against this (it's not an error - it's a feature :) ). If you want to turn a parented prop around his own center you have to unparent first.

First of all , the two objects are not props , but characters.
Also , I have said the stopper will be parented. That doesn't mean it is already...

In other words , what I described happens for two characters (.cr2) that are not in relation one with another.

Is there some reason that the stopper (and the bottle, for that matter) are characters and not props?  I'd probably either make them both the same character, or parent the stopper (prop) to the bottle (character, or prop).

But either way, just...

  1. load your prop/character and open the Joint Editor.
    2. select (click on) the actor (body part) in question.
  2. set the option at the top of the Joint Editor to 'Center'
  3. Note where the little green cross-hairs are... this is the point about which this actor will rotate....
  4. click on it and drag it where you want it (use the 3 value input boxes for fine or absolute value adjustments).
  5. save your prop/character back to the library.

This is really weird...
The green cross is exactly where it should be.But when the bottle is present in the scene the stopper is not rotating as it should. If I just delete the bottle , then the stopper rotates as it should.
It seems that I canot fix this , and have both items in the scene.
And yes, they are characters because I want to apply different textures to them.I have tried this with props , worked once , and since then I was unable to make it work again unless they were characters. In other words , they are characters so I can use interchangeable textures for them.

Odd.  Hard to say what's happening without looking at the files. If you don't mind sending me the files, I can take a quick look at it ( typhoon [at] suddenlink [dot] net)
