Subject: Uhm That's not IBL as I understand it - Poser 7

Uhm, In Poser 7 select an IBL light preset.  What do you see? 1 light set for IBL diffues. The others? Well they are just plain lights and there isn't that many of them. Plus look at the IBL diffues lights Image source. Its not even a true spherical image. Its just an image of a rendered sphere. Thats also not the right kind of image to my understanding. The image should be able to lierally wrap around a 3D sphere completely. Sort of like a panaoramic image but a sphere instead. Plus each light in the scene is supposed to be derived from that image. Thats basically how Truespace does it and I think other 3D apps do it that way as well. That does not appear to be the case in Poser 7. Am I completely wrong or was the person assigned to program this into Poser 7 asleep at the wheel?

Pete

At default settings the psuedo IBL lights  for Poser 6 downloadable here look far superior to Poser 7's default IBL lights

Turning on raytracing and Ambient Oclusion after realizing I overlooked those still doesn't look good at all. How is it even realistic to even get a good IBL l scene based on a tiny 91 x 91 sized image. Additionaly it would also be reading the browqn bar where it says IBL: as part of the image. would it not?

If I'm reading your post right, you may want to peek in deeper - the 91x91 thingy is just a thumbnail - it refers to the original image file buried deep in the runtime directory. ...it's easier to simply import your own images anyway. /P

Ah ha. By the way it appears that I was missing something. A brain. My render settings were set middle of the road when they should have been set higher.
