ok, this might not be too blender specific, but i just put a forum on my website, moderated by me and about absoultly nothing currently.  i am try to turn this into a super low trafic blender forum for me to talk to myself about techniques, anybody interested in finding it should go to my website www.bluecubegraphics.com and click the buttons till a second home tab turns up, when that turns up, click it and magic, your on an unrestricted unregulated blenderforum with 4 randomn comments by myself.  there is no membership, i couldnt figure out how to do that, and your email address doesnt realy even have to be real to use it, so potentialy, its got the potential to grow full of spam very quickly!!!!!  but... my website is so low trafic anyway, i doubt that even spamers would be interested.

Cool :)  I tried posting something, but I'm not sure it worked, and then I hit the "regular view" button and the entry box went away O.o  I've been meaning to build a forum myself just to have something of the sort to show off to potential employers, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

yah, i sort of cheated,  i used 1and1's cgi quickies.
the way my forum works is to create a new topic, write on the front page and click save entry, then to reply to a topic you click post reply.  its sort of the opisite of how most forums work, but whatever.

If you're thinking of creating your own forum, I would have thought phpBB is a good place to start along side mySQL. It's what we use at work for a lot of our internal forums, and really doesn't need a great deal of config to get something working, leaves you to work at making it pretty!

Nah, I meant to program it from scratch :)  I think I know how to make it, but what's stopping me is not enough time and no hosting.

I spend far too much time programming at work to do it at home, so I'm great believer in (legal) plagiarism in my home stuff now. guess it'd be different if I was studying a new language in depth. but I tend to learn enough to manage what the team are doing and that's about it

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but since I'm currently a grad student looking for a good job, anything that I make is likely to become a portfolio piece, so I'd rather do much of the programming myself.  I do look at examples that are out there to get my own ideas, though.
