Has anyone done a 3D model of an assembled printer circuit board, or of the unpackaged surface of the silicon wafer, with enough detail to be an environment for Poser people. Taking cover behind surface-mount devices, sheltering from the rain under a 741 op-amp package, that sort of thing. My mental image is probably closer to the 1980s than today. But yes, there'd be a lot of bugs around.

Hmm..seens some back in the day, but as pictures unto themselves. Sounds like 'Tron' more than Starship Troopers..;)  I'd say go to 3d Cafe`, but I'm not sure what shape they're in. They'd wound up something of a paysite last time I checked, but nothing's eternal in Poser world...;)

I found these circuit boards, but some don't have readme's and I don't have the files with me at the moment, so I can't tell you where to find them.  Most are in 3ds Max's proprietary format.  I'd guess that I got some of them at Turbosquid as freebies (the link is to the one 3ds model). The textures wouldn't hold up well in close-up, so a fair amount of work would be needed to really go to town with this idea.

I'm not sure if precise textures would matter much, since a serious closeup
of what's happening inside the chip will have to be somewhat cartoonish.

If your character is running away from the BP register to escape a hostile stack
pop, you'd want to show a "street" or "track" that can be walked on.... and I strongly
suspect the real track inside the IC would look like a crude and rough
set of pebbles, hard to distinguish from the surrounding silicon, at such a
magnification. 

I did a large board like that and lost the model to a bad drive crash....   But you couldn't have put anything under them... just on the sides and on top of the chips...
