Subject: How do gallery people DO THAT? - put a thumb to previous image?

Lyne ( ) posted Thu, 12 April 2007 at 10:53 AM · edited Sat, 03 August 2024 at 9:34 PM

Okay I looked in the FAQ.... did not find anything....is this part of rendo or are they somehow putting html stuff in there? It's kinda neat, especially when a previous image is related.

thanks.

Yep, just simple HTML code in the notes section.

Hey Lyne, try copying the previous thumbnail image {highlight the thumb/copy} and pasting it into the description area of your current image..see if that works ;)

Jani, that won't work because the notes section is a text input and not the FCK editor. Nice idea though ;-)

Lyne, use this code:

thumb_XXXXXXX.jpg

Replace the XXXXXXX with your image ID (you can see this by looking in the address bar when you view the image - the last part of the URL.)

Hope this helps :-)

Oh goodie, you are such a sweetie, Karen!! I copied it out and will go try it with an image that was a part two of one before it! :)

THANK YOU! :)

Errr... it did not work... the html code showed as text...two lines of it and a tiny teeny little square showing there should be an image there, but it would not load.  ??

what did you write in the "thumb_xxxxxxx" bit Lyne as that bit i can't see how you get a url for, someone showed me ages ago how to put images in an email, so the top "image" code bit makes sence to me, but i don't get how you can link to your thumbnail image.

how do you do that? (scratches head)

Acadia ( ) posted Sun, 15 April 2007 at 1:25 AM

Try this.... there is a .jpg extension missing in the above example

thumb_XXXXXXX.jpg

Linda, that's incorrect if you want to link to the gallery page and not just the image.

To find the image id, just open the gallery page and look at the url, the last 7 digits is the number you want.

Lyne, it sounds like you left off part of the code. Be sure you copy everything including the all the < > tags.

Here is the code for (for example) your most recent pic:
thumb_1422723.jpg

cool! thanks Karen! so the thumb bit is just the same as the image id, but with a. jpg bit on the end.

i don't get how anyone understands this codie stuff, as it all looks like alphabetti and numberetti spagetti to me!

TerraDreamer ( ) posted Mon, 16 April 2007 at 9:25 AM · edited Mon, 16 April 2007 at 9:28 AM

Be aware though that the folder number where the thumb resides will change over time.  When I used to post photos I believe it was around folder_134.  You'll have to be dilligent in checking this.

EDIT: To clairfy, the folder where a certain thumb is located now will stay the same, it's just that the folder number for future thumbs will change as they fill up or for whatever the reason the filders change numbers.

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 16 April 2007 at 9:44 AM

Yes, good point, Terra-Dreamer. You can always check this by looking at the url of the image itself. To do this, right-click the image and select "Image properties" and look for the line that says "Address" or "Location" (depending on which browser you're using.)

I did copy the WHOLE thing as I know those thingys are important... I can try again, and LEAVE IT to show you what I put and what came out on the page... as I really would like to do this ... now that I have put up another "two parter" image ....be right back...

WOOO HOOOO!!! IT WORKS!! :D  I bet when I selected it did not "catch" every > thingy... HUGE THANK YOUS and now I have a template!!! wheeee!!!

HUGS!! :)  You always make my rendo life more FUN Karen!!

Lyne

EDIT: ARGH!!! WHY DOES IT WORK ONE TIME AND NOT AGAIN?? I CAREFULLY PUT THE IMAGE ID IN PLACE OF THE ONE YOU DID FOR ME... AND HERE IS WHAT I GOT:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1420686

AND here is the code I used:
<a

href="http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1419562"><img

src="http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/media/folder_143/thumb_1419562.jpg">

I do note that pasting in seems to add spaces so I actually tried twice to fix the spacing between the <> thingys... OR is this now the "wrong folder" ?  I don't understand the folder thing.  sigh.

KarenJ ( ) posted Wed, 18 April 2007 at 4:20 AM

Yeah, it's the folder thing, that thumb is in folder 142.

To check the thumbnail address, do this:

  1. Open your gallery and find the pic you want
  2. Right-click on the thumbnail and select "Properties" (should be the bottom option)
  3. On the tab that comes up, look for the part which says "Address (URL)" - this will tell you the folder number and image ID. For the example one you wanted, the relevant part is folder_142/thumb_1419562.jpg4. Paste that bit into your "template" over the existing folder bit, or manually change the folder and image id numbers.

This should sort it. let me know how you get on :-)

keeping in mind I am dyslexic and sometimes can't SEE things right.... look and see if you can tell me what I am doing wrong?

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1420686

the other reality is that we are copying and pasting from an html field to another.. OR it may be I am coping TO note pad (devoid of html) and back to here...that might be removing a secret key of some sort??? hmmm. and you had a "4" after jpg on that line??

I really appreciate your helping me figure out this puzzel!!

edit:  i was right!!! I copied your most recent html lines right out of HERE, pasted into my rosity notes and carefully changed just the image number and the folder number and IT WORKED!! soo notepad is taking something out that rosity needs to make the magic thingy work! Now what I have to figure out is where/ what to keep my "template on" so I don't loose the html element....that magical invisible little fairy that is making this thing work!??!  Might be able to use my e mail program field (i do NOT use outlook) in Eudora - so next, I will try that... pasting direct from HERE to my Eudora field, and back into the gallery notes here....puzzle puzzle!! :)  I wonder if WORD PAD is html?

KarenJ ( ) posted Wed, 18 April 2007 at 2:30 PM

If you are saving in notepad and the encoding is off then it's possible it could be adding something you're not aware of, but I've never experienced that ever happening in 7+ years of coding HTML ;-)

I dont know about notepad, but I do know that wordpad will remove the formatting if you're not careful when saving it.

oh... word pad will mess it up??  note pad has no formatting for html apparently... okay...I will try my e mail program... I am determined to find the key! :))  = the whole point being to be able to save a TEMPLATE that is "active html" and ready to go but for changing the numbers... :)

I FOUND A WAY! :))

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1403925

I did use my e mail program... it "holds" the html in the right way! :)  Now just to remember to save THAT template in there! LOL!! But that solves that... .whew and THANKS!!

I know..Karen... note pad....should work but that is what I did... I pasted in it...but when I copied out I lost something and go the lines of html under my picture (gone now cause I fixed it).... I have a PC- xp home... all I know is note pad is for cr2's and other poser and mesh stuff! ?!?!
