The only way I know how to do it is with the gather node in Poser 6, or in post work"It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi
In all versions of Poser, you can set the ambient for the glowing object to the color and intensity you desire, although in P5 and earlier you need to have a light shining toward whatever is supposed to be lit by the glowing object, color matching (roughly at least) the glowing object.
So, to do an image of a person in a dark room holding a green lightsaber up near their face, you'd need to set the ambient intensity to '1' on the lightsaber blade material, and change the color to green.
You'd then need to set up a spotlight, positioned to point at the person, particularly the areas that would be lit by the lightsaber, also colored green, and fiddle with the light intensity to get the right kind of illumination. A lightsaber probably gives of about as much light as a small camping lantern, enough to illuminate things within 1-2 feet, but not beyond that. You may also ned to add additional lights to give a glow to the hands, or anything else close by, setup like the initial spotlight.
While I'm using a lightsaber for this, you could apply these steps to anything that needs to glow and cast light on something else.
I did the attached image in P7, but it should be possible to get the same effect in P4, with just about anything.
