Subject: Poser 6: Missing/Blank document window

kalon ( ) posted Wed, 18 April 2007 at 3:42 PM · edited Mon, 29 July 2024 at 5:26 AM

I've been working on a scene since last weekend. When last I had it open, I rendered it successfully for about the fifth time, closed the document, exited Poser 6. The next night I opened the document, there was nothing not even the document window. Started thinking maybe I hadn't clicked file, open. Went to open the document again and got the dialog asking whether or not I wanted to save changes... Click no, and again the file "opened" with no document window. (The materials tab showed all the figures, but with the nodes detached)

I tried opening another document that was not as complex - just a clothed, textured character with hair. This time, the document window formed but was blank. On a whim, I rendered the document. It rendered fine, when I switched back to preview, the mesh showed up.

Has anyone had this issue? I've put an email in to eFrontier, but I haven't heard back yet.

In eariler versions of poser - clicking Edit-> General Perferences then clicking on "Launch to factory state under both Preferences could often solve the problem.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

Yeah I halfway recall someone having similar problems, the solution was one or more of the xml files buried in a subdirectory had gotten messed up.  Oddly, I think the solution was to install Apollo Maximus - it sounds like I'm joking but I'm not, it re-wrote the broken file and fixed it.

Thanks Mrsparky and Pjz99, for the suggestions, but sadly... no joy.

Unless it only works with Apollo / Apollo 2005. Hmmmn... may have to dig out those installation files.

The plot thickens, however, when I click the materials tab, V4 doesn't list at all.

I hadn't had an opportunity to look at V4 in the hierarchy before. When I open the hierarchy window, I get this... Is this correct? The body, hip, abdomen, chest, neck and head are all listed at the bottom of the hierarchy.

Apparently, I may have been premature. Something worked, I can now open other documents without the blank document window.  Thank you very much!

My scene file apparently is corrupted.
